Holland is listed with his wife Angel (Angeline) age 50 b. Holland and three sons, Peter age 10; Jacob age 5 (sh/be 8); and George William age 5. Children all b. IN. Joseph is a laborer; real estate was valued at $200 and personal property was valued at $100. He states he is a U.S. citizen.
We cannot prove where our immigrant Dutch ancestor, Joseph Cornelius WEDA settled until his son Peter was born in New Buffalo, Berrien Co, IN in 1859. In 1862 Jacob was born in Michigan City, IN along with George by 1865. They were still in LaPorte Co., IN in 1870 per the Federal Census Schedule. By 1872, we are assuming that Joseph, the father and young son, George have died. We understand that in 1872, the mother Angeline and two sons migrated to Grand Rapids, MI, Kent Co.
I lost track of Joseph after the 1870 census ... but later picked
up his wife, Angeline, and sons, Peter & Jacob who all migrated to Grand
Rapids, MI before 1880. The sons married THIBOUT women in
Grand Rapids, MI (not sisters).
