According to Genealogy of the Pinney Family in America; Author, Laura Young Pinney b. 1849 - published in San Francisco, CA by the Harr Wagner Pub. Co in 1924 Horace , (son of Lieutenant Abraham, son of Captain Abraham, son of Nathaniel, son of Nathaniel, second son of Humphrey Pinne,) and the father of the above 3 brothers arrived in LaPorte county, Indiana about 1837 with his Wife Nancy Snavely whom he had married in 1811 in Virginia and then went to Jackson County, Ohio before coming to LaPorte County and settling in the Clinton Township area.
Horace died in 1839 and Nancy soon after in 1841, they are both buried in Westville Cemetery, LaPorte Co., IN. They had seven children: David born about 1812 , Horace, b. 1817, William b. 1819, Mary b. 1821 (married Phineas Small June 25, 1840 in LaPorte County), Harvey, born 1825 and died in 1834 and Lois, born in 1827 married Jacob Thornbush in LaPorte County May 4, 1843.
1. David, died at the age of 34 years (Aug
11, 1847)
Synopsis for David, b. 9 Nov 1812 - (eldest son of Horace , son of
Lieutenant Abraham, son of Captain Abraham, son of Nathaniel, son of Nathaniel,
second son of Humphrey Pinne,) evidently had his life cut short as he is buried
in Westville Cemetery as are his parents, two younger brothers and many others
connected with the Pinney surname. He may have indeed resided in Pine Grove,
Gallio County, Ohio; as I have seen written in some family histories, but 3
males between the ages of 20 and 30 appear on the 1840 LaPorte County census
with Nancy Snavely Pinney and I believe him to be one of these. This
accompanied with the fact of his tombstone in Westville Cemetery leaves me
little doubt. David had two children; Abraham and Aurora, I have nothing
further on them. Also in the year 1835 it is noted in the old settler's list
for Clinton Township that Horace Pinney Sr., Horace Pinney Jr., Wm. Pinney and
David Pinney were listed.
2. Horace, b. 14 Sept 1817
Horace, (son
of Horace, son of Lieutenant Abraham, son of Captain Abraham, son of Nathaniel,
son of Nathaniel, second son of Humphrey Pinne,) married Angeline Haskell in
LaPorte County May 4, 1843. Angeline (Haskell) Pinney b. 4 Feb 1827 in Erie
County, Pennsylvania and arriving in LaPorte Co., about 1834 appears on the old
settlers listing. She was the daughter of James & Betsey Haskell and wife
of Horace Pinney. Horace was born about 14 Sep 1817 and died 20 Apr. 1880.
Angeline died 20 Sep 1872 and both husband and wife are buried in Westville
Cemetery. After the death of Angeline F., Horace married Nancy Dowd on the 14
May 1874. This Nancy, may have gone to Iowa after the death of Horace, however,
I have no concrete proof of this.
Horace and Angeline had several children. They were :
I. Jay was born 2 Jan 1847 and died 7-11-1937 cemetery record shows birth as 1/20/1847. He married Laurie Ellen (Nellie) Hopkins, daughter of David H. Emma can be found living with her sister Lois in Valparaiso, Porter Co., Indiana in 1930. Emma is working as a bank cashier.
3. William (3rd son of Horace, son of Lieutenant Abraham, son of Captain Abraham, son of Nathaniel, son of Nathaniel, second son of Humphrey Pinne,) b. 28 July 1819. married Cynthia Long in LaPorte County, IN on Dec 23, 1841
Cynthia (Long) Pinney also appears on the old settlers listing as being
b. in Jackson Co., VA on 20 Sep 1822 and coming to LaPorte in October of 1836.
Cynthia was the daughter of Gideon and Elizabeth Long.
She married William
Pinney in LaPorte County 23 Dec 1841 and they settled into the Clinton Twp in
LaPorte County as did Horace, William's older brother, and their families. Many
of the members of all three above families and their associated families are
buried in Westville Cemetery, New Durham Twp, LaPorte County, Indiana.
William and Cynthia had the following children:
I. Elizabeth Nancy was born Oct 6, 1842 married Warren Cole 19 Nov 1862. Warren was born in New York state on Dec 3, 1838 and died Mar 10, 1898. Both are buried in Westville Cemetery. To this marriage were born the following children; Cole, Alice A. Cole, born about 1864 married William J. Sept 23, 1870 d. Oct 20, 1870. In 1880 this family had moved to Lake County, Indiana, where Warren was employed as a Watchmaker, Jeweler.
II. Harvey Wright Pinney born 15 Jul 1844 , married Margaret A. Kelley in LaPorte Co., IN 06 Oct 1868. His name is misspelled in the WPA marriage index as Binney. They had eleven children. IN 1870 Harvey is living in Essex Township, Porter County, Indiana. Some of the children born to this marriage were: Adella L. b, about 1870, Lillian O., Perry F., Edna L., William H., Mary A., Leonard L. See the 1880 on line Census from the Latter Day Saints site for information on the ages of these children, etc. They are back in LaPorte County in 1880. Harvey W. Pinney headed west some time after 1883. If we look at the census and birth's of his various children, it appears that Harvey W Pinney's wife, Margaret had 11 children and 8 of which are surviving, so she states on the 1900 census for South Dakota, Tripp Co, Wright Voting Precinct. In 1910 we find Harvey and Margaret in Tripp County, SD , Wright Voting Precinct.
Harvey;s son, Frank (Percy Franklin Pinney) in 1900 is living with his
wife Cora and they are recently married. They are living in City of Omaha
Nebraska. Douglas County. Name is misspelled on this census as Penney. Their
divorced son
Frank (Percy Franklin) is living with them in 1910. Frank is
38 years old.
And in the 1920 census Clarence yet another child of
Harvey and Margaret is living with his mother and she is widowed and living
next door to her son William and his wife and children.

son of Harvey and Margaret has passed away before 1920 and his wife(Victoria
Lawrence) Pinney and children living first in Cedar County, NE and then moving
to Douglas Co., NE.
Victoria later went to California and passed away there
in 1944.
III. James Andrew b. 27 June and died same year on 14 July 1846 he shares a tombstone with his brother, Elvin Clinton who was b. 17 July 1860 and evidently did not live long. James and Elvin are definitely the sons of William and not a James Pinney as they appear one listing that I viewed.
IV. William Esli Pinney b. abt 10 Nov 1847. In about 1875 William
E. Pinney (William, Horace Sr.) married Finnette (Nettie) Morrison daughter of
John McCord and Susan (Courtney Blair) Morrison b. Jan 1848. In 1890 William is
the Pres. State Bank Valparaiso. In the 1900 census for Center Township, Porter
County, Indiana we find William, his wife Finnette, their only child Myra
Finette Pinney b. July of 1880 and their nephew Guy are living with them along
with William's mother-in-law, Finette (Morrison) Pinney's mother, Susan
Morrison who states she is a widow and b. March 1822 and is 78 years old and
from Ohio as she so states her parents were from Kentucky and Pennsylvania. In
1910 William is living with his daugher on W. Lafayette street in Valparaiso.
William's occupation was that of a banker.
Ref: History of
LaPorte County - Packard page 267:
A special election was held in October
1873, for Prosecuting attorney to fill a vacancy occasioned by the
reorganization of the courts of the State. The candidates were James A Crawley
and William E. Pinney of LaPorte, and George Ford of South Bend. Ford received
one hundred and thirteen votes, Pinney two hundred and twenty five, and Crawley
one thousand one hundred and eighty.
This William and his daughter Myra will later donate land to Purdue University for their Agricultural Center. Unproven at this writing, but all references seem to indicate that Myra married Ainsworth Clark b. Montcalm County, Michigan in about 1877 to Ethan J and Alice J. Clark out of the state of New York. Myra states on the 1930 census report for Cook Co., IL, ED 208 that she was married at age 38, she is then 50 years of age, this would mean that Ainsworth and Myra were married about 1918. There are two children listed on the 1930 census; a daughter, Ruth age 7 and a son, John M. age 6 both born Illinois.
V. Perry Guilford b. 3 Feb 1850, appears in the 1900 Fredonia, Wilson County, Kansas census with his wife Ella b. Illinois and two sons, Walter born Feb 1887 and Warren born June 1892 in Kansas. US Fed. Census, Center township, Wilson Co., KS pg 23A. Son, Guy, born in 4 September 1880 is already out of the home and living with his uncle William E. Pinney (Guy is 39 years of age) and in the 1930 census Perry appears at the age of 80. They are living in Los Angeles, CA.
Guy, on his own later headed to Los Angeles California.
In 1910 Guy
is joined by his brother Walter, they are both single, Guy is 31 and Walter is
23 and the are living as Lodgers on South Main Street in Los Angeles, CA. Later
in 1920, his father would join him in the 1920 census CA, Los Angeles ED 190 -
They are living on or near S. Vermont Avenue. Guy S. Pinney appears as being 39
in this census.
Guy S. Perry appears on the California death index as being
born 4 Sep 1880 in Kansas and dying
3 Apr 1946 in Riverside, California.
Mother's maiden name being Stratton.

VIII. Elvin Clinton 17 July 1860 (see James Andrew Pinney, Elvin's brother listed above.) May have died in 1862, unproven by this author.
4. Mary Pinney, (daughter of Horace, son
of Lieutenant Abraham, son of Captain Abraham, son of Nathaniel, son of
Nathaniel, second son of Humphrey Pinne,) w/o Phineas Small b.

Lois b. abt 1827 (daughter of Horace, son of Lieutenant Abraham, son of Captain Abraham, son of Nathaniel, son of Nathaniel, second son of Humphrey Pinne,) married in LaPorte County on 5 Dec 1848 Mr. Jacob Thornburgh (b. abt 1826) Their child Willie E. (William E. Thornburgh) appears on the 1870 Federal Census for LaPorte County Westville City, pg 283a Indiana as being 17 years of age.) By 1880 Jacob, Lois and William are in Franklin, Jackson Co., KS. Jacob's occupation is a farmer.
Please note that this is NOT necessarily all of the
children of Horace Sr. and Nancy (Snavely) Pinney But these children
fit the ages of the children that accompanied them to Indiana when looking at
the 1840 LaPorte County Indiana Federal Census reports.
Connections in LaPorte and Porter County
William E. Pinney, son of William Pinney, and his daughter
Myra F. P. Clark gave the Pinney farm to Purdue University and the people of
Indiana in 1919. The marker in front of the original Pinney homestead
