Harvey moved his family to Cass Co Michigan between 1836 and 1838 and received land by BLO Land Patent for Bronson, Michigan as follows: W½NW MICHIGAN-TOLEDO STRIP No 8 S 16 W 18. This is located South East of Niles Michigan in Cass County, Michigan. It is now bounded on the East by Ironwood Road, on the South by E. Bertrand Road and on the West by 21st Street.
Harvey next moved his family from Bertrand, Berrien Co., Michigan to Rolling Prairie, LaPorte County Indiana between March 23, 1838 when his son was born in Michigan and the time of the 1840 census. You will find Harvey and his family in both the 1840 and 1860 federal census for Wills Twp, LaPorte County, Indiana.
Harvey was a tailor and a hotel keeper. He opened a Tavern in Boot Jack Wills Twp in 1851.
While living in Rolling Prairie, LaPorte County, Harvey and Jerusha had 4 more sons, William H. H. b 1841, John W. b 1844, George W. b 1848 and Chauncey M. Kellogg b 1850.
John R. Kellogg, the older brother of Harvey, was born March 28, 1808, in Vermont the 3rd son of Jonathan and Hannah (Upham) Kellogg. He also moved to Rolling Prairie, Laporte County in 1850 from Michigan after having lived in Geauga/Lake County Ohio. In the fall of 1852 John Kellogg ventured to Floyd County Iowa and bought land which is now within the corporate limits of Charles City. Then in 1854 bought an additional 40 acres.
John Kellogg and his family moved the following spring to Charles City, Iowa, from Rolling Prairie, Laporte Co., Indiana to Warren Illinois by rail and then from there overland driving an ox team prairie schooner to Charles City arriving there on 4/3/1854. When they arrived there were only a few log cabins. His was the 3rd family to come to the area. The trip required two weeks.
Harvey Kellogg followed his brother west. Harvey received a Land Patent for the SW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Section 35 in Township 96-N of Range 16-W on June 15, 1854 in Floyd Co Iowa. In March of 1855 Harvey moved his family (Jerusha, the 5 boys and Mary) to Charles City Iowa and was one of the pioneers of that country having joined his brother John R who had moved into the area the previous spring.
Both Kellogg brothers settled down in Charles City and are buried there.
