JOHN & JOSEPH HANYZEWSKI FAMILIES

Joseph and Anna (Szocinska) Hanyzewski were married in Poland on January 27, 1884. It would seems that they came to America soon after they were married, since his obituary says he lived in South Bend for 50 years and his death was August 2, 1934 and all the children were born in South Bend.

   The following information for their children was taken from applications for marriage, church records, census and obituaries.
1. Kazmir Hanyzewski, born January 26, 1885 married Magdalena "Maggie" Drews November 20, 1905. Their children: Clara Hanzewska married Clifford Ridenour May 4, 1940.
Dennis Hanyzewski Adam Hanyzewski born February 15, 1906 Eva Casmira Hanyzewski born December 5, 1906 died same day one hour later Sylvestor "Sal" Hanyzewski born September 10, 1907, died October 21, 2000.
2. Stanislaus Hanyzewski born May 27, 1886, died before his father’s death.
3. Albert Alexander Hanyzewski, born January 29, 1888 in South Bend, Indiana. In 1910 he married Jenuir Marguerite Street, born June 22, 1893 in New York. She was adopted, parents unknown. Marriage application date August 10, 1910. Amelia Hanyzewski born February 13, 1893 married October 16, 1911 to Maciej Chlebowski born February 08, 1885 in Lagorow, Kalisz, Russian Poland.
4. Helen Hanyzewski born January 26, 1897 married on September 04, 1916 to Joseph Jacob Kielton born March 11, 1896 in Hydoville, PA. Daughter: Florence Kielton born March 26, 1921 married on April 13, 1939 at St. Hedwig, South Bend, Indiana to Alphonsus V. Zakrzewski born March 10, 1918 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. They had two children; Rozanne Florence Zack born November 24, 1940 and Randall Zack born February 12, 1956. On June 10, 1961 at St. John the Baptist, South Bend, Indiana, Rozanne married Leo Francis Jaroszewski born March 03, 1939. They have two children; Mark Francis Jaroszewski born February 18, 1963 and Lisa Ann Jaroszewski born August 12, 1965,both were born in Edinburgh, Scotland.
5. Leokadia Hanyzewski born December 25, 1897 died before her father’s death. Married on November 08, 1915 to Joseph Krzyzaniak born February 13, 1893.

JOHN HANYZEWSKI John was married twice. St. Joseph County, Indiana 1910 census information: John Hanyzewski age 40 married 9 years (2nd marriage) born in German Poland came to US in 1895, Papers applied for. Wife: Catherine age 36 mother of 7 children 4 living in 1910; born German Poland came to US in 1892. The following children are probably by John's first wife: Victoria age 15 born German came to this country in 1895, Helen age 14, Alojzy age 12, Stanislaus age 11. All except Victoria born in Indiana. John & Catherine's children are Leo age 7 and Bromslawa age 5 both born Indiana.

JOSEPH HANYZEWSKI - -Joseph Hanyzewski, aged about 60, of 1021 West Sample street, died of complications at 7:30 o'clock this morning in his home. He was ill three months. He was born in Poland and had lived in South Bend for 50 years, since coming here from Poland. He married Anna Szocinski in Poland Jan. 27, 1884. The widow survives with two daughters, Mrs. Angela Chlebowski and Mrs. Helen Kielton two sons, Casmir and Albin, all of South Bend; a sister, Mrs. Frances Witucki, of South Bend; two brothers, Andrew, of Michigan City, and John, of South Bend, and 11 grandchildren. The body may be viewed in the home. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Hedwige's Roman Catholic Church with Rev Francis X. Luzny, C.S.C., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Polish cemetery. (South Bend Tribune, Thursday Evening, August 2, 1934)

JOSEPHINE HANYZEWSKI - Funeral services for former Michigan City resident Mrs. Josephine Hanyzewski, 77, 352 S. Park Drive, Griffith, will be tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at Lesniak Funeral Home, 4918 Magoun Ave., East Chicago with mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church Griffith. Mrs. Hanyzewski died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1976 at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Hammond, after a short illness. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Mercy Cemetery, Gary. Survivors include three children Eugene Hanyzewski, East Chicago; Paul Hanyzewski, Calumet City and Mrs. Solomon (Dorothy) Lakatos, with whom she resided at the time of her death; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister and three brothers – Mrs. Mary Plesniak, East Chicago; Walter Kuc, Las Vegas, Nev. and John and Marion Biestek, both of Hammond. Her husband Martin preceded her in death. (Mich. City News Dispatch Monday, August 16, 1976)
