Henry Adolph Bauch was born on June 19,1860.He was the son of Henry Bauch and Menia (Domke) Bauch.
The Bauch family was living near "Bald Hill" at this time.
The family consisted of three other children, two boys and a girl. Charles Edward Bauch was born in 1854, Emma Bauch was born in 1857, Augustave A. Bauch was born in 1859.
Charles Edward and Emma were the children of Henry Bauch and his first wife Stephania.
Their Mother Stephania died sometime after the birth of Emma in 1857 –1858.
Henry Bauch married his second wife Menia Domke in 1858.She came directly to Laporte from Germany and married Henry that same year.
Their Father Henry Bauch worked in a maritime occupation.
He died on April 15,1863 and is buried at the Patton Cemetery in Laporte beside his first wife Stephania.
Menia Domke Bauch married her second Husband Mr. Louis Schumm Sr. in November 1864.He instantly became a stepfather to her four children.
Menia and Louis would also have three children of their own, Willie, Rosa and Louis Schumm Jr.
As a young man Henry A.Bauch was member of Laportes first band and a member of its volunteer fire department.
He was long associated with the family business at the Laporte Sash and Door Co.
He married Mary Baetz on October 29,1884.
An interesting story to that is this .His brother Charles Edward Bauch and his wife Lizzie (Marks) were expecting their fifth child and he was born on October 29,1884.His name was Grover Cleveland Bauch.
Sadly on November 9,1884 Lizzie passed away of "Child Bed Fever" in Fort Wayne.
Mary and Henry had three children, two boys Irwin and William and a girl Lydia.
In later life Henry owned and operated the Henry Bauch Furniture Store at 717 Michigan Ave.
The local newspaper did a feature on him and is gardening hobby in the October 24,1942 edition.
His wife Mary died on November 30,1938.
Henry Adolph Bauch died at the Holy Family Hospital across from his home on June 1,1945
They are both buried at the top of "Poets Hill " at the Pine Lake Cemetery in Laporte next to the tree legend has he planted.
