Maass, Moss, Dorothy Fredrika   - Michigan City News Weekly, March 8, 1899, page 8, col. 5   Mrs. Hans Maass residing near Hatch's Mills, Galena township, died last Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. Maass came to this county at an early date and were consequently two of the earliest settlers. Mrs. Maass had lived a busy and useful life, and was honored and respected by all who knew her. She leaves a husband and six children, the latter being Mrs. Wm. Dalphin, of New Buffalo, Mich.; Henry Maass, of Oregon; Sarah Wayne, of Mentua, O.; Mrs. Hannah Davis, of Hesston, Ind.; Mrs. Harriet Fisher and Charlie Maass, of Hatch's Mills. Burial in Foster Cemetery.

Maass, Moss, Hans F. - The Acorn, March 25, 1904   Our other good old friend who has left us is Hans F. Maass, who died on Sunday evening, March 20, 1904, after a long illness. Mr. Maass was born in Germany near the city of Kiel, Nov. 11, 1819, and lived to the age of 84 years, 4 months and 1 day; he was the eldest of eight children and last survivor of his family; a wood turner by trade. Mr. Maass was married to Miss Frederika Dorothey Luhr in 1846; they had seven children; two sons and five daughters - all living except one daughter - being as follows: Mrs. Lena Daufin, of New Buffalo, Henry Maass of Newbury, Oregon; Mrs. Sarah Wayne, of Mantua, Ohio; Mrs. Harriet Smith Fisher, Mrs. Hannah D. Davis and Charles Maass, of this township; and Mrs. Adaline Cook, who died some years ago; besides which he leaves sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In politics he was a Democrat. Mrs. Maass was a true Christian and belonged to the German Lutheran church of which he had been al life-long member. He came to America and this township in 1852 and was one of, if not the very first, who came here from Germany and, although they have sent over many good citizens to this place, they have never sent us a better one than Hans F. Maass. In 1854 he settled on the farm where he died. His wife died March 3, 1899. Burial in Foster Cemetery.

Macher, Kurt  - LaPorte Herald Argus, Dec 27, 2002   KURT MACHER Funeral services for Mr. Kurt J. Macher, 76, of 203 Washington St., will be Saturday at 11 am at the Haverstock Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Sroka officiating. He died Wednesday, Dec. 25, at 4:40 am at LaPorte Hospital. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm today and Saturday from 9 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospitc/Continuing Care Unit of LaPorte Hospital or St. Vincent DePaul Society of Sacred Heart. He was born June 17, 1926 in Dziedzice, Poland to Victor and Elizabeth (Kolasa) Macher and had lived in Michigan City for 51 years, coming from Poland. Mr. Macher retired in 1984 after 32 years as a route salesman for F.W. Means Company. He was also a wholesale deliveryman for Angelo Bernacchi's and a bartender for PNA for many years. He was a member of PNA, PRCU, Polish Falcons, Moose Lodge of LaPorte, F.O.P. of LaPorte and the PNA Rod and Gun Club. During WWII he was in forced labor in Germany and France from 1941 to 1945. In May of 1945 he volunteered for the Polish Land Forces and spent one year in Italy under British command. He then served as part of the Polish Resettlement Corp until 1948. On Oct. 23, 1965, in Michigan City, he married Helen Wawok who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Nancy Baslinger of New Buffalo, Mich., Rosemarie Emerick of LaPorte, Cynthia Hycner of Michigan City, and Debra Kuspa of South Bend; four sons, Kenneth Wawok, James and Robert all of LaPorte and William of Colorado; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Hilda Duis of Littleton, Colo. Maerz, Fred – Michigan City News, April 8, 1938   Fred Maerz, a farmer living south of here in LaPorte county, died Thursday in the Holy Family hospital in La Porte. He had been ill for one year but had been confined to the hospital for only one day. Mr. Maerz was born April 19, 1894 in Indiana. He is survived by his wife, Minnie and eight children, Mrs. J. Hillham of Springfield township, Miss Ada Maerz of Mishawaka and Lester, Hilda, Harriet, Kenneth, Harvey and Bernice at home and one sister, Mrs. Edward Schultz of Michigan City and one brother, Edward Maerz of Springfield township. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Heston Christian church. Rev. Louis Kling will officiate. Burial will be in Heston.

MAGNUS, MARY – Herald Argus, 4 February 1927 -   Mrs. Mary Magnus, age 78, of Rolling Prairie, passed away yesterday at her home. She was the wife of John Magnus. Mrs. Magnus was born in Jamesville, Wis., May 11, 1849, but lived in this county for the past 50 years, moving from Michigan. Forty-eight years ago she was married to John Magnus at New Buffalo, Mich. She was a member of the Methodist church. The deceased woman is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Alta De Witt of Maywood, Ill., and Mrs. Sarah Goffar; one sister, Mrs. Sadie Stonage of Three Oaks, Mich., one son, Elmer Green of Rolling Prairie; two brothers, Isaac Teeter of Three Oaks and John Teeter of Des Moines, Ia. The funeral will be held at the residence in Rolling Prairie Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The rev. O. E. Weber of Rolling Prairie will officiate. Burial will be in the Rolling Prairie cemetery in charge of E. E. Ebbert.

Manthey, Henry - Wanatah Mirror; 8 June 1922   Henry Manthey, buried in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Wanatah. Henry Manthey was born June 16, 1845, in Province, Posen, Germany. In the year 1875 he came to this country. He was married to Miss Wilhelmine Schuelke; this union was bless with 12 children of which 2 besides his wife preceded him into Eternity. He died May 28, at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 12 days. He leaves 3 sons, 7 daughters, 20 grandchildren and one great grand child. Funeral was held May 31, 1922. The relatives of Henry Manthey extend there thanks to all that assisted them during their father's illness and also to the choir.

Manthey, Wilhemine - Wanatah Mirror; 13 March 1913   Wilhemine Manthey - buried in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Wanatah. Mrs. Henry Manthey, residing southeast of town, passed way early Tuesday morning, death being due to diabetis. Deceased leaves her husband, three sons, and 5 daughters. The funeral will be held from the Lutheran church this afternoon. Burial in St John’s Cemetery.

Marhanka, Henry Frederick - Source: LaPorte Herald Argus, Mar 24, 1927 - Henry Frederick Marhanka, age 74, of 302 Polk street, died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock after an illness of one year. Mr. Marhanka was born in Tampico, Ind., July 8, 1852. He had lived in this city for the past 15 years, coming here from Brownstown, Ind. He was a gardner. On Feb. 1, 1890, Mr. Marhanka married Mary Katherine McMillan at Freetown, Ind. He was a member of the Christian church. The deceased man is survived by his widow, four daughters, Mr. E. B. Wright, Waverly road, LaPorte; Mrs. Thomas Owens and Mrs. William Elkins, both of this city, and Mrs. R.D. Nottage of Florida; two sons, Roy, at home and H.O. Marhanka of LaPorte. Fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother also survive. The funeral will be held at the home, 302 Polk street, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Eli Roose will officiate. Burial w ill be in Pine Lake cemetery in charge of Cutler Bros.

Marks, Herbert   -  LHA -- 6 Sept 1940 Marks - Funeral Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, Standard time, at the Hanna Methodist church for Herbert Marks, age 54, of six miles southeast of Hanna, who died Tuesday night at the Holy Family hospital. The Rev. George Hartz of LaCrosse and the Rev. J.A. Gardner of Hanna will Officiate and burial will be in the Hanna cemetery with Kosanke Brothers of Union Mills in charge.

    Lemuel Marsh Father of the editor, died at Hudson, LaPorte Co., Indiana 3 June 1850, in the 80th year of his age. He spent the early part of his active life in St. Alban’s, Franklin Co., Vermont, his native State, where he professed faith in Christ, and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church.
   In A.D. 1817 he moved to LeRoy, Genesee, New York, where, on account of denying the trinity and believing in the Unity of God, and that Christ is the Son of God, he was turned out of the M.E. Church. My mother, and one or two brothers were turned out of the same church about that time, for the same cause. In LeRoy he buried his first wife, my pious mother, and soon after marrying his second wife, moved to Randolph, Cattaraugus Co., N.Y. where he buried three sons, my dear brothers, who died happily in the Lord.
    After spending several years of deprivation and incessant toil in the wilds(?) of Randolph, he moved to Hudson, Indiana, to fill up the measure of his days in that new and fertile country. There he paid the debt of nature; there he now (?), sleeps in death – (?) we trust, to awake to (?), and have a glorious part in the first resurrection. Blessed be the Lord! (Last line illegible.)
   Note: The Church of God Historian, Jan Stilson, also furnished the information that Joseph said his step-mother was also buried in Hudson, and Joseph visited the graves in 1851, according to a record of Joseph’s travels printed in the same paper. Joseph also said that he visited his brother, William, in Hudson, and his sister, Mrs. F.G. White, in the same area. It is likely that William’s first wife, Roxanna Barmore, is buried in the same cemetery in Hudson, as well as some of William’s children. -

Martin - - Henry J. Martin Jr., 52, Westville, died Thursday (Jan. 7, 1999) in LaPorte. There are be no services or visitation. Newhard Funeral Homes, Westville, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Martin was born Sept. 5, 1946, in Rolling Prairie to Henry J. and Mona Lee (Grubb) Martin Sr. Surviving are a son, Henry J. Martin III, Kingsford Heights; a daughter, Jamie (Larry) Sacks, Reedsburgh, Wis.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Henrietta (Thomas) Smith, LaPorte, Linda Faulkenbury, Florida; a brother, Clark Martin, Palatine, Ill.; and his girlfriend, Dolores Jeffers, Westville."

MARTIN, LAURA – unknown La Porte newspaper, 26 March 1934    -    Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Houseknecht Martin, age 62, wife of Charles W. Martin of Rolling Prairie, who passed away Wednesday evening, will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Haverstock chapel. The Rev. F. G. Kenny will officiate and burial will be in Rolling Prairie cemetery with O. M. Haverstock in charge. The body may be viewed at the chapel this afternoon and evening and until the time of the service tomorrow. The daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Houseknecht, Mrs. Martin was born in Lairdsville, Pa., on May 8, 1871. She had lived at Rolling Prairie for the past 38 years, moving there from Hughsville, Pa. On February 26, 1896 in Rolling Prairie, she was married to Charles Martin. She was a member of the Baptist church and Gleaners lodge of Hatches Mills. Surviving are her husband; one son, Ralph Martin, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Buss of La Porte and Mrs. Edith Cauffman of Lydick; four grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Banzas, Mrs. Carrie Swank, Mrs. Julia Rishel, Mrs. Marguerite Poust, all of Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Viola Fowler of Rolling Prairie; two brothers Fuller Houseknecht of Pennsylvania, and Charles Houseknecht of Rolling Prairie. One sister preceded her in death.

MARTIN - MRS. MENITA P. MARTIN – . Source: LaPorte Daily Herald Argus, Wed, Nov 16, 1938, pg.4   Mrs. Menita Pearl Martin, 36, wife of Bedford Martin of 406 Planet Street, passed away this morning shortly after 1 o'clock in the Holy Family Hospital after an illness of one year. She was born in Starke County on Dec. 28, 1901, the daughter of Arthur and Julia Palen, and had lived here most of her life. She was married here in November 1922. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Pentecostal Church. Surviving are her husband and her mother; five sisters, Mr. Ora Young, Mrs. Clara Slater, Mrs. Anna Thomas, Mrs. Mildred Bunch, all of LaPorte, and Mrs. Fern Alsup of Valparaiso; four brothers, George, Rollin and John Palen, all of LaPorte, and Charles Palen of South Bend. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the O.M. Haverstock chapel. The Rev. Mr. Rice of Michigan City will officiate and burial will be in Patton cemetery. The remains may be viewed at the funeral home from this evening until the time of the service.

Robert was born on March 2, 1922, to Arthur C. and Bessie (Sheeley) Martin at their farm in Three Oaks. Mayes, Emily (Jones) – MC News, Galena Township, June 27, 1900   Died, at her home near Hatch's Mills, after a long illness, Emma (s/b Emily), wife of James Mayes. Funeral took place Tuesday, at 2 p.m.; Interment was at Hesston. Mrs. Mayes leaves a husband and five children, besides many relatives and a host of loving friends to mourn her sad demise.

Mayes, James – Michigan City Evening Dispatch, March 6, 1913   James Mayes died at his home in Galena township Tuesday evening at the age of 70 years. He leaves his widow, five children, one step-son and seven grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Ben Wing, living near Laporte; Mrs. Edith Cooper, Denver, Col.; Mrs. Maud Parks, Davenport, Ia., and Edward and Harry, New Buffalo, Mich.; step-son, Oliver Slater, who is at home. On Aug 31, 1865, he was married to Emily Jones, who preceded him 13 years ago. Four years later he married Mrs. Stella Slater, who survives him. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the home and services will be held at Hesston church at 10:45. Burial at Hesston cemetery.

McCARTY, CHARLES F. – La Porte Daily Herald, 24 March 1908 Charles F. McCarty, for more than half a century a resident of LaPorte county, died last night at his home in Kankakee township. The deceased was born in Manchester , Mich. , Aug. 27, 1837 , and came to LaPorte county with his parents in 1845. He was married in 1865 to Miss Anna Norris, who survives, with three children, Mrs. John Behringer of Michigan City , Charles N. McCarty of Liberal, Kan., and Ralph L. McCarty of Kankakee township. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Maria VanGeisen of East Chicago and Mrs. William Andrews of Grand Rapids and one brother Loami McCarty of Schultz , Mich. The deceased was a member of the Christian church at Rolling Prairie. The funeral services over the remains will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Christian church in Rolling Prairie and the burial will take place in the Rolling Prairie cemetery with Weir’s Sievert in charge but services will also be held at 10 o’clock Thursday morning at the residence of Mrs. Behringer, 816 York street, Michigan City, Rev. O. L. Kiplinger officiating.

McCARTY, PEARL – La Porte County Herald, 1 October 1901    Pearl McCarty, the five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Schuyler McCarty of Rolling Prairie, died Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Death resulted from a few days illness with scarlet fever of a malignant type. The remains were buried Sunday morning, W. C. Weir being in charge.

McClain, Lindsey - LaPorte Herald Argus April 12, 1993 Page 17 The funeral for Lindsey Ann McClain, 10, of 1202 S. Marquette St., LaPorte, who died Friday, April 9, 1993, at 3 p.m. at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Essling Funeral Home with Rev. John Newton officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. until the service Tuesday. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery. She was born Feb. 16, 1983, in LaPorte, to Albert and Vicki (Smith) McClain, and lived in LaPorte her entire life. Lindsey was a third grade student at Riley Elementary School. McLane, (Mrs. Timothy) Mrs. Rebecca Jane - Mortuary Record - source unknown Friday April 14, 1908   Mrs. Rebecca Jane McLane (Mrs. Timothy) Mrs. Rebecca Jane McLane, wife of Timothy McLane, passed away at 7 o’clock at her home on Jefferson avenue. Death came so quietly and peacefully that those at the bedside hardly knew the actual moment when the spirit took its departure. Since Sunday afternoon Mrs. McLane had been unconscious, having on Sunday suffered a stroke of apoplexy, which gradually claimed the patient, in spite of all that medical science and loving care could do. The deceased, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Croup, was born in Noble township, June 20, 1849, and had always lived in LaPorte county. She was married Sept 27, 1868 to Timothy McLane, and to them were born three children of whom two are dead. Surviving her are the husband, one son, Frank B. McLane of this city, and four brothers, R. B. Croup, M.C. Croup, M.H. Croup and Draper Croup. Mrs. McLane was a woman of ........................Until the family came to LaPorte a little over a year ago, Mrs. McLane’s home was in Union Mills, where she was an active worker in the Presbyterian church and a teacher in the Sunday school, and belonged to the Eastern Star. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Presbyterian Church, Union Mills. Rev. C. R. Parker of this city will officiate, assisted by Rev. S.E. McMURRAY, EDWARD D. - The Herald-Argus, LaPorte, Indiana, Friday, May 31, 1940   Edward D. McMurray, age 74, of Cedar Lake, rural route No. 1, Crown Point, formerly of LaPorte, passed away at 1:55 a. m., today at Mercy hospital, Gary. Mr. McMurray had been ill for one day. He suffered a stroke. He was widely known in LaPorte and formerly a member of the local police department. At one time he also operated a taxi line in LaPorte. The son of David J. and Lydia A. McMurray, he was born at Rolling Prairie on July 20, 1883. He lived at Crown Point for the past 13 years, moving there from LaPorte. He is survived by one brother, W. E. McMurray of South Bend, formerly of LaPorte; one niece and three nephews. Mr. McMurray was married twice, to Jennie Bishop and to Blanche Orange, both of whom preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at the Haverstock chapel here at 3 p. m. Monday. The Rev. Clayton H. Wilson will officiate and burial will be in Patton cemetery. The body may be viewed at the Haverstock chapel from noon tomorrow, until the time of the services.

Mr. McMurray was a Kroger store manager at Hammond for many years and later was employed at DeLuxe Products. He was born July 31, 1904, and was married Jan 15, 1925, to Helen Kemp, who survives. McVay, Mildred - Mrs. Mildred McVay, 86 of 1111 Longwood Dr., LaPorte, died Wednesday, March 22, 1989 at 10:55 a.m. at LaPorte Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born Oct. 26, 1902 in Michigan City, to Andrew and Maria (Miller) Piper, and lived in the area all her life. Mrs. McVay was a member of the Baptist Missionary Church and Friendly Neighbors Club. In 1924 in LaPorte she married John J. McVay, who died in November 1963. Surviving are one son, John K.; two daughters, Garnet Schreiber, of LaPorte, and Evelyn Upp, of Rolling Prairie; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Herschel Piper, of LaPorte; one-half sister, Janus Lockhart of LaPorte. Two daughters and four brothers preceded her in death. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Essling Funeral Home, with Rev. William L. Peterson officiating. McVay, Wilbert E. - LaPorte Herald Argus - (d: 10/15/1983)   Wilbert E. McVay, 73, of 1734 Country Lane Dr., LaPorte, died Saturday Oct. 15 at 2:22 p.m. at LaPorte Hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1909 in Campbellsville, Ky to William Harvey and Florence (Harger) McVay, and had lived here most of his life. He was a member of the Moose Lodge Drill Team and was on the drill team for six years. He retired from Modine Mfg. after 25 years and Allis Chalmers after nine years. He worked two years with the Parks department and CCC camps. On June 8, 1935 in Waukeegan, Ill., he married Irma Houston who survives. Also surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Daniel (June) Lenig of Rolling Prairie, Ind., Mrs. Craig (Barbara) Homan and Mrs. Paul (Nancy) Marquardt, both of Valparaiso, Ind. Mrs Lauren (Beverly) Beam of LaPorte, Betty Bagwell of Pikeville, Ind., and Mrs Richard Sherwood of Union Mills, Ind; five sons, James W. of Hamlet, Ind., Robert A. and Guy R. both of LaPorte, Sfc. Raymond E. of Cypress, Calif., and William H. McVay of Camby, Ind.; 31 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Thelma Feather of Campellsville, Mrs Fred (Ethelyn) White of LaPorte, and Mrs. Lola Williams of Oklahoma. Mrs Mellinger 81. Trapper In Burning Closet   -  Believe fire started from Kerosene Blast - Chief F L Yeoman Burned.
Handicapped by parital blindness and a sudden rush of flame and smoke, Mrs. Mathilda Mellinger, 81, of Hanna, was trapped and burned to death in her small home across from the Methodist Church in Hanna late yesterday morning.
  Within a few minutes after the fire was discovered in the five-room dwelling the entire interior was an infrerno of flame. When would-be rescuers opened the doors and windows they were forced back by fire which leaped from the openings.
  The body of the aged woman was removed from the smouldering ruins after the house had been destroyed. She was found in what apparently had been a clothes closet, leading to the theory that Mrs. Mellinger became confused and opened the wrong door in an attempt to get outdoors.
  The fire started apparently when the aged woman tried to light a fired in her kitchen.
  Had Lived Alone - Mrs. Mellinger had lived alone in Hanna for about 20 years. Her home was owned by C. H. Rowley and was the former Methodist parish. Her health had been generally good, neighbors said, although in recent years her eyesight began to fail and she was troubled with deafness.
  The fire was discovered at 10:10 yesterday morning by Henry Sacks and Ed Heiman who were driving past the home. They summoned the Hanna fire department. F. L. Yeoman, chief.
  Soon the department, consisting of eight regular members , was joined by volunteers from the Hanna Methodist Sunday school, in session across the street and by neighbors.
  Funeral Tomorrow-   According to some spectators they sawa the woman in the flaming house, but firefighters said they did not have any glimpse of her. AFter the fire died down the chief and his helpers found the body in what had been a closet.
  Mrs, Mellinger was forn in Oack Park, Ill, Jan 4, 1855. She had lived in Hanna for 29 years , moving there from Newton county. Her husband John Mellinger, died 20 years ago. Surviving relatives include one son, Austin Wicks, ofHanna, one foster daughter, MRs. Zannie? Neis, of Cincinnati; and one brother Albert Burns, Hammond, IN.
  Mrs. Mellinger was a member of the Lowell Ind., Christian church. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30 at the Hanna Methodist church, the Rev. Mr Poo??? of Lowell officiating. Burial will be in the charge of Kosanke Brothers of Union Mills - buried in Lowell Cemetery.

Menke - Devyn Menke - 7/18/2001 News Dispatch, Michigan City, IN - Devyn C. Menke, 32, Michigan City, died at 6 p.m. Monday (July 16, 2001) at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Springville Free Methodist Church with the Rev. David Hill officiating. Cremation is taking place and there will be no service or visitation. Carlisle funeral home is handling arrangements. He was born Oct. 4, 1968, in Michigan City to Richard C. and Sharon (Schudorick) Menke, who survive. On Sept. 6, 1992, in LaPorte, he married Cheryl Weaver, who survives. Survivors also include one stepson, Jeff Irk, LaPorte; two stepdaughters, Chevin (Jason) Carter, Jacksonville, N.C., and Samantha Irk, Michigan City; one brother, Rick (Lisa) Menke, Michigan City; one sister, Laura (John) Glinos, LaPorte; one grandson, Anthony Carter, Jacksonville, N.C.; three nephews and one niece. Mr. Menke was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Leona and Willard Schudorick; and paternal grandparents, Orrie and Mabel Menke. Mr. Menke was self employed. He was a devoted fisherman. Merrill, Augusta (Wasson) - Michigan City News Dispatch, June 19, 1939, Page 7, Col 1   Mrs. Augusta Merrill, 91, one of Three Oaks' oldest and best-known residents, died at 1 p.m. Saturday at her home on Magnolia Ave., after being critically ill for one week.
Mrs. Merrill was born Feb 3, 1848, in LaPorte, and came to the Hatches Mills community, south of Three Oaks, at the age of 11, with her mother. At the age of 18 she married Clark Merrill, son of her mother's second husband, Truman Merrill. Mr. Merrill, an early day merchant here, died 14 years ago.
  Mrs. Merrill was raised a Quaker and throughout her life spoke the plain language, which her friends enjoyed hearing.
  A nephew, Homer Finley, who resides in Portland, Ore., is her only surviving relative. A nurse, Mrs. Linda Perring, has resided with her for some time. She leaves also a host of friends. Old and young folk alike considered Mrs. Merrill one of their best friends, and until her last illness she took a keen delight in making something or doing for others.
  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the home, 104 Magnolia Ave., with Rev. John Henry, pastor of the Congregational church officiating. Burial will be in Foster cemetery, south of Three Oaks. Friends may call at the home until the hour of the services.
  Mrs. Merrill was a life member of the Eastern Star lodge.

Merrill, Clark - The Acorn, Three Oaks, Michigan, April 30, 1925   The Passing of Clark Merrill
   A Pioneer of this Vicinity. Came to Hatch's Mills in 1850. Came to Three Oaks in 1881.
Faster and faster the old pioneers of this region are passing on into the Promised Land. This past winter and this spring have witnessed the last rites performed for a great number. And the last to drop his burdens and move into the Land of Peace and Joy, was Clark Dean Merrill.
  Mr. Merrill had almost reached his eighty-third year, having been born in Columbia County, New York, on July 26, 1842. Only his boyhood days were spent at his birthplace. In 1850 his father, T.J. Merrill, moved to Hatch's Mills, just over the line in Indiana.
  Mr. Merrill was the only son on the farm, although twins were born to his parents, a boy and girl, the girl only surviving, Martha Merrill, at present living in LaPorte.
  It was on the farm at Hatch's Mills that he began to work, doing the multitude of things that fell to the lot of a boy on the pioneer farm. And in the school not far from the farm he obtained his education.
  In 1853 Clark Merrill's mother died, and in 1859 his father married Mrs. Mary Wasson. Mrs. Wasson had one daughter, Mary Augusta, who greatly influenced the young man Clark Merrill. On March 18, 1866, Mary Wasson and Clark Merrill were married. Had Mr. Merrill been spared but a year longer, the sixtieth wedding anniversary would have been celebrated.
   The wedding ceremony was held in Charlotte, Michigan, to which place Mr. Merrill's father had moved. And with her mother had gone Mary Wasson. The young couple returned to Hatch's Mills where for many years they lived on a farm.
   In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Merrill moved to Three Oaks where the firm of Clark and Finley was formed and engaged in the meat business. Somewhat later Amos Wasson bought out Mr. Finley. Mrs. Merrill's brother and Clark Merrill conducted the meat market until 1893 when the firm dissolved and the Merrills moved to New Buffalo, where Mr. Merrill ran a meat market. From 1893 to 1897 he was in business there, but in the latter year returned again to Three Oaks, where for several years Mr. Merrill worked in the meat market of Watson and Bremer and later for Mr. Alec Watson alone. But in 1908, Merrill entered the employee of the Warren Featherbone Company, where he worked up to two years ago. About six months ago Mr. Merrill suffered a stroke of apoplexy. From this he had nearly recovered and was enjoying short trips out in the spring sun. but on Friday morning, April 17, Mr. Merrill fell. It is believed he felt another stroke coming and tried to reach his bed. The fall broke his hip, and he never recovered from the shock, dying in the evening, Saturday, April 18th.
The funeral was held from the house Tuesday afternoon, April 21st.
The Rev. Moffett, Baptist minister from LaPorte was in charge. Mr. James Otwell, a life-long friend of Mr. Merrill, gave the oration, and Rev. Dawe offered prayer. Interment was in the Foster Cemetery.

Merrill, Truman L. - Michigan City News, March 29, 1888, Page 4, Col. 5   GALENA TOWNSHIP: Truman Merrill, who has been sick a long time with dropsy, died Sunday morning, March 25, 1888. Mr. Merrill was over 76 years old, and one of our kind hearted, honest old citizens, and will be missed by many in this township. His family has the sympathy of this community in their affliction, and the writer will always remember the many kindly greetings of "Uncle True," as he was familiarly called by those who knew him best. Metzner, Barbara (Barnes)   - LaPorte Herald Argus, Saturday, May 2, 1959   Transcriber's Note: Mrs. Metzner died as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.
   Mrs. Barbara Ann Metzner was born Aug. 15, 1932, in Rolling Prairie to Harley and Ruth (Gilbert) Barnes and had resided in Rolling Prairie and LaPorte all her life. She was an employee of Kingsley Furniture company. Mrs. Metzner was a member of the Rolling Prairie Methodist church and the Eagles auxiliary.
  Surviving are two daughters, Diane Jean and Sharon Kay, both at home, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Barnes, Rolling Prairie; one sister, Mrs. Lester Zellers, LaPorte, and two brothers, Dale Barnes, at home and M/Sgt. Robert L. Barnes, Dover, Del.
  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Haverstock Funeral home with the Rev. Herbert G. Wingard officiating. Burial will be in Foster cemetery.
  Friends may call at the Haverstock chapel from tomorrow noon and until the time of services.

Meyers, Wheeler R.   - LaPorte Herald-Argus, Tuesday, July 28, 1964   Wheeler R. Meyers, 72, route 3, died at 12:50 a.m. today at the Walters Clinic, Michigan City.
  Born in Berrien county, Mich., on Dec. 27, 1891 to William and Anna (Cessna) Meyers, he had lived in LaPorte county for 43 years. He was a retired machinist and farmer.
  He was married in LaPorte on March 29, 1918 to Iva Barnes, who survives. Mr. Meyers was a member of the Gleaners lodge and a former Allis-Chalmers employee.
  Besides his wife he is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Esther Martin, Mrs. Ruth Conklin, Mrs. Nina Firebaugh, Mrs. Betty Swanson, all of LaPorte; Mrs. Eleanor Benford, Michigan City; Mrs. Irma Freeman, Worth, Ill., and Mrs. Carol Waak, Three Oaks; two sons, Maurice Meyers, Holt, Mo., and Donald Meyers, LaPorte; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Griffin and Mrs. Elizabeth Quirk, both of Three Oaks; Mrs. Vernice Davis, LaPorte, and Mrs. Edna Griffin, Edwardsburg, Mich.; two brothers, Frank Meyers, Nebraska and Ernest Meyers, New Carlisle; 32 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Four brothers preceded him in death.

Mrs. Miles was born September 1, 1849, in Ionia, Mich. but resided in Springville Twp., La Porte County, the greater part of her life. Her husband, Eugene Miles, died a year ago, and surviving her are seven children, Mrs. William Nutt, of Spokane, Wash. Frank Miles, of Great Falls, Mont., Henry Miles of Mishawaka, Mrs. William Brown, Mrs. George Fritzen, Ben Miles and Miss Alice Miles, of this city. She also leaves two brothers, Henry and William Lincoln of Chicago, and a sister, Mrs. Edwin Mayne, of New Orleans. Miller, Arthur - Daily Herald, Monday April 5, 1897 - Arthur Miller, aged 23 years, who resided on the Ora Bosserman farm, Pleasant township, near Bald Hill, died yesterday morning after a lingering illness, consumption being the disease with which he suffered. Miller, Conrad - The La Porte Daily Argus, La Porte, Indiana, Tuesday, November 7, 1916   Conrad Miller, aged 67, a farmer, died at the county asylum this morning at 6:30 o'clock. Mr. Miller's residence had been at Shippeeburg. He was taken to the county asylum but a few days ago. He had been ill two weeks. He is survived by a widow, who still lives at Shippeeburg. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Springville church, and burial will be made in the Springville cemetery, Decker Bros. in charge.
   The Daily Herald, La Porte, Tuesday, November 7, 1916 - Conrad Miller who lived on a small farm near Shippeeburg, and who was taken to the county asylum a week ago last Monday, died at that institution at 4 o'clock this morning. Death was caused by dropsy. He was 67 years of age and had been critically ill about two weeks. The deceased was born in Germany and had lived in this country since he was a young man. He leaves no relatives except a wife, Mrs. Sophia Miller. The funeral will be held at the Springville church at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon and the services will be conducted by the Springville Methodist minister. Interment will be in Springville cemetery. Miller, Dorothea [or Dorothy, In earlier records is also reported as "Sophie"] . (died 12 Oct 1919): Mrs. Dorothy Miller died Sunday morning at the home of her son, Herman Miller, of Stillwell. The deceased lived on a farm in Lincoln Township. She was only ill one day, having suffered a stroke of apoplexy. She was born in Germany January 15, 1835, and was 85 years old at the time of her death. She was married 60 years ago to Ernest Miller. Nine children were born to the union, one son and four daughters of whom survive her, Mrs. Charles Stoffer, Mrs. Matilda Meyer [sic], and Mrs. Fred Blankschein, of this city, Mrs. William Graw, of South Bend, and Herman Miller, of Stillwell, also fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    The funeral will be conducted at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Stoffer, 1712 Monroe Street, Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock from the home and 2:30 from St. John's Lutheran Church. The burial will be in the German Lutheran cemetery. L.A. Decker is the director (Michigan City papers please copy).

Miller, Ernst Charles [or Ernest, also sometimes reported as Charles] (died 28 October 1917): Ernest Charles Miller died Sunday morning at 7:50 o'clock at the family home, 305 B Street. Mr. Miller was born in Mecklenburg, Germany on September 13, 1829 and came to America in 1857. He was married to Miss Dorothea Rotkey in 1859, two years after coming to this country. He was a member of St John's Lutheran church. Surviving him are the wife and five children. Mrs. Charles Stoffer and Mrs. Matilda Meier of this city, Mrs. William Gau of South Bend, Herman J. Miller of Stillwell and Mrs. Fred Blankschein of Michigan City, and one grandchild [note: this is incorrect; there were more living grandchildren]. MILLER, FRIEDERICK - LaPorte Herald Argus, Mar. 23, 1926   FRIEDERICK MILLER, age 79, of 401 C Street, died at his home this morning at 7:15 after an illness of several years with Bright's disease. He was born March 25, 1846, in Darlinghausen, Hanover, Germany, and came to this country in 1866. He was united in marriage in 1870 in LaPorte to Louise Lange, who survives him. Mr. Miller was a member of the St. John's Lutheran church. Surviving besides his wife are Herman Miller of LaPorte, a son; Mrs. William Ebert and Mrs. Paul Hilgendorf, both of LaPorte, daughters, and one brother, Herman Miller of LaPorte. Four grandchildren also survive. Private funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home, the Rev. Paul Eickstaedt officiating. The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Miller and was born September 15, 1882, in Mecklenburg, Germany. Besides his parents he leaves three brothers, Andrew, William and Charles Miller. Miller, Mrs. Minnie - LaPorte Daily Herald Argus, Dec. 31, 1924   Mrs. Minnie Miller, age 86, a former LaPortean and well known in the city, died at the home of her son, Gust Miller, 1013 Elston Street, Michigan City, Monday night. Her death was due to complication of diseases and followed an illness of a year. She was born July 24, 1838, and lived in this country for 58 years. She was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Church. Two sons, Gust and Charles Miller, both of Michigan City, survive. A daughter died here a year ago. A grandson, Fred Fickle, of Laporte, also survives. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at 1013 Elston Street and will be private. The Rev. A.P. Meyer will officiate. Miller, Sophie - La Porte Argus, November 27, 1916 - Mrs. Sophie Miller - After but a short illness of bronchial trouble and arteriosclerosis, Mrs. Sophie Miller, widow of Conrad Miller, formerly of Shippeeburg, died last night about midnight t the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Clayton Eaton, near Union Mills. The deceased's husband died two weeks ago last Wednesday. Mrs. Miller was born at Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, September 22, 1828, therefore was 90 years of age. She was married to Conrad Miller 40 years ago, since which time she had made her home in Shippeeburg until the death of her husband. She is survived by five grandchildren and one son, the latter by a former marriage. The funeral will probably be held Wednesday afternoon at Springville church. Burial in Springville cemetery, but the exact time for the services has not been announced. L.A. Decker and brother will be in charge.

Mrs. Miller was born at Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, September 22, 1828. She came t this county about 40 years ago and was married here shortly after to Mr. Miller. She leaves one son by a former marriage, who does not live in this locality, and five grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday at the church in Springville, near her old home and the interment will be in the Springville cemetery. The hour of the funeral will be announced later. L.A. He was born in Burnettsville, Ind., April 1, 1883 the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Robert F. Million. He was married in 1901 to Iva Lene Young at Cicot, Ind. Survivors are one daughter, Ruth Holloman, LaPorte; six sons, Harold, East Chicago; Eugene, Montacello; Arnold, South Bend; Robert, LaPorte; Carl, Terre Haute, Ind.; Jack, LaPorte, 26 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His wife, one daughter and two sons preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday at the Haverstock chapel. The Rev. Martin M. Lawrence Moeschl, age 43, of 203 Warren street, passed away at the Holy Family hospital at 1 o'clock this morning after an illness of three months. The deceased man was born in Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Moeschl. He had lived in this country for the past 18 years, being a moulder by occupation. Surviving are his mother, Elizabeth Moeschl of La Porte, three brothers, Joseph Moeschl of Wisconsin, William and Anton Moeschl of La Porte; one sister, Mary Bolster of La Porte. His father preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body may be viewed now at the O.M. Haverstock funeral home, until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in Pine Lake cemetery.

MONTGOMERY, WILLIAM C. - Herald-Argus Monday, Jan 18, 1954 William C. Montgomery, 68, of 105 A. Street, died at 8:30 Sunday morning at the Holy Family hospital after a lingering illness. The son of Jacob and Mary Montgomery, he was born May 23, 1885 in Kingston, Tenn. He had lived here for 10 years, coming from Tennessee. He was a member of the Wesley Methodist church. Survivors include a nephew and niece, Mr. And Mrs. James Yates, with whom he lived, and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Haverstock chapel. The Rev. Moon, William - William Moon, 75, of route 1, Michigan City, died at 12:30 yesterday afternoon at his home after an illness of three years. He wasa born Oct 7, 1882 in Springfield township to Justus and Minnie Moon.
  Mr. Moon had lived there all his life and retired as a farmer in 1944. He was married on 1904 to Selma Plageman.
Surviving are his wife, two sons; Herbert L and Stewart E Moon, Michigan City; one brother, Charles Moon, Cicero, Ill.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.
  Funeral services will be at 1:30 Sunday afternoon at the Haverstock Funeral Home and also at 2 o'clock at the Springville Methodist chuch with the Rev. Paul F. Donoghue officiating. MOORE, ROBERT – Unknown La Porte newspaper, 9 July 1911 - Robert Moore, of Rolling Prairie died Friday morning at Longcliff hospital at Logansport, where he had been for several years. The remains were brought to Laporte today and the funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at Rolling Prairie. The deceased was about 70 years of age, was a civil war veteran, and is survived by his wife, who lives at Rolling Prairie. Burial in Lamb’s Chapel Cemetery.

   Mrs. Ethel (Skinner) Morton, 80, of Stillwell, died at 10:50 o'clock yesterday morning at the Memorial hospital in South Bend after an illness of one and a half years. 
  The daughter of John and Clarabelle Skinner, she was born near Galien, Mich., on Dec. 21, 1878 and had lived most of her life in this vicinity. 
  On Oct. 25, 1899 near Heston, Ind., she was married to Jens H. Morton, who died Jan. 23, 1953. 
  She was a member of the Galena Christian church, of the Farm Bureau, and East Galena Home Economics club. 
  Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Lillian Zeiger, Berrien Springs, Mich.,; Mrs. Gertrude McAlpine, Michigan City; Mrs. Elizabeth Hagenow, Westville; Mrs. Ethelyn Richman, Albion, Ind.; Mrs. Florence McKinney, Richmond, Va.; Mrs. Ruth Lee, Stillwell; also 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. 
  Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Haverstock Funeral home with the Rev. Calvin Didier officiating. Burial will be in the Foster cemetery. 
  Friends may call from tonight at the Haverstock chapel and until time of services on Wednesday.

  The son of Nelson and Elizabeth Morton, he was born Oct. 25, 1877 in Kankakee township, LaPorte county. He had lived in Galena township most of his life. He was a retired farmer.
  In Galena Township, on Oct. 25, 1899 Mr. Morton was married to Ethel Skinner, who survives. He was a member of the Galena Christian church and the Farm Bureau.
  Other survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Hiram Zeiger, Sawyer, Mich.; Mrs. Lloyd McAlpine, Michigan City; Mrs. Edward Hagenow, Wanatah; Mrs. Mildred Richman, Albion, Ind.; Mrs. Harry McKinney, Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Charles Lee, Stillwell, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Freese, LaPorte; Mrs. T. W. Scott, Prairie City, Ore.; Mrs. Lizzie Pratt, LaPorte; Mrs. James Hutchess, El Cajon, Calif.; and Mrs. Myrtle McCurdy, Erie, Pa.
One grandson, Lt. Ray Zeiger, was a casualty in World War II. Two brothers and one sister, Mrs. Charles Cushing, also preceded him in death.

Morrow, Charles - Herald Chronicle Thursday Apr 14 1881(State Line)   Mr. Charles Morrow, an old settler of Galena township, died on Tuesday of last week. He had been failing for two or three years with consumption. His funeral was held on the Saturday following at the Posey chapel, Rev. Middleton, of Rolling Prairie, officiating. Mr. Morrow came to this township in the year 1836, and has lived here ever since, and with industry and economy he made a good property, raising a large family, all of whom he gave a farm of not less than 80 acres each. His widow survives him. (New Carlisle) - The funeral of Charles Morrow, an old resident of Galena twp. took place at Posey Chapel last Saturday. Rev. H.M. Middleton conducting the services. Mr. Morrow has been in feeble health for many years.

Mounts, Mrs. Elsie C - - July 17, 1931 Mrs. Elsie C. Mounts Mrs. Elsie Clarice Mounts, 30, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Jones, at Rolling Prairie this morning. She has been ill four years. Death was a result of complications. She was born in Wills township July 19, 1901, living in the county all her life. She married Howard Mount Dec. 22, 1923. The deceased was a member of the Olive chapel church and the Gleaners’ club of New Carlisle. Surviving are her husband, one son, Harold Wayne, one daughter; Wilma Louise, her parents, and one brother, John R. Jones, of Fort Wayne. One son preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, Central Standard time, at the Olive chapel church. The remains may be viewed at the home from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in the Baptist cemetery with O.M. Haverstock in charge.

MRS. FRANK C. MOYER – The LaPorte Daily Herald Argus, Thurs, March 30, 1939   Mrs. Frank C. Moyer, age 77, passed away today at 12:25 a.m. at her home, 315 G Street, after a short illness. Mrs. Moyer was a member of the First Baptist church. Surviving are a son, Oscar Moyer of LaPorte; two daughters, Carrie Kepplin of LaPorte and Mrs. May Kilmer of Hammond; a brother, Charles Chambers of Wichita, Kans; six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Cutler Brothers chapel, the Rev. William Gustafson officiating. The remains may be viewed at the funeral home from Friday afternoon until the time of the service. Burial in Patton Cemetery.

Frank G. Moyer – The Daily Herald, Oct 15, 1915, Friday, pg. 7 ,   for 31 years a resident of LaPorte, and known to a large circle of friends and acquaintances, died suddenly at 8 o'clock this morning at his home at 315 G Street. He had been feeling as well as usual, so far as his family and friends knew, and his death was wholly unexpected. Because of the suddenness of his death, Dr. W.W. Walkinshaw, county coroner, held an inquest. He pronounced his death due to an organic heart disease. Mr. Moyer was 53 years of age, having been born November 29, 1862, in Pennsylvania. He came here from that state and was a painter and decorator. He was married December 30, 1883, at Knox, Ind., to Miss Arvilla Chambers, who survives him. He is also survived by a son, Oscar Moyer of LaPorte; two daughters, Mrs. Otto Kepplin and Mrs. Lee Kilmer of LaPorte; three half brothers, Charles Albert and John Frye of Nebraska; and two half sisters, Mrs. Ella Richardson of Nebraska and another whose place of residence is unknown. The announcement of the funeral will be made later. Cutler Bros. are in charge. Burial in Patton Cemetery.

Mrozinski, John - Daily Herald, Monday, February 17, 1913 - John Mrozinski died at the Holy Family hospital at 6:20 o'clock Friday morning of blood poisoning, which developed from an injury of the right leg. He was 72 years of age. He came to this country in 1871. He leaves a widow and five children. The funeral services were held Saturday at 10 o'clock from St. John's church, Sogany Lake. Father Sergonske and Osadnik officiating. Weir & Petering are in charge of the funeral arrangements. Three brothers of deceased, Joseph, George and Frank, live in LaPorte county.

Rolling Prairie, died at 8:15 p.m. yesterday at the Holy Family Hospital after a two-month illness. He was born in Rolling Prairie May 24, 1880 and was married Sept. 30, 1919 in Rolling Prairie to Stella Wroblewski, who died July 1, 1953. Mr. Mrozinski was a farmer and a member of the Holy Name society of the St. John's Canty Catholic church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Mixtacki, and Miss Alice Mrozinski, both of South Bend, and Mrs. Gertrude Laymon, Rolling Prairie; one brother, Stanley Mrozinski of South Bend; two sisters; Mrs. Rose Paris and Mrs. Helen Sudrovech, both of South Bend; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. John's Canty Catholic church in Rolling Prairie with the Rev. Theodore A. Janicki officiating. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery there. Mrozinski, 68, of route 1 Rolling Prairie, died at 2:05 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home after an illness of four weeks. The daughter of Mikolaj and Josephine Wroblewski, she was born in Terre Coupe, St. Joseph county, on March 4, 1885 and had lived near Rolling Prairie all her life. On Sept. 30, 1923 in Rolling Prairie she was married to John E. Mrozinski. She was a member of St. John Cantius Catholic church and of the Rosary society of that church. Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Laymon, Rolling Prairie; Mrs. Carrie Mixtacki and Miss Alice Mrozinski, both of South Bend; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Walinski, South Bend; Mrs. Mary Michalski, Terre Coupe, four brothers, Joseph and Frank Wroblewski of South Bend, and David and Enoch Wroblewski of Terre Coupe. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. John Cantius church with the Rev. Theodore Janicki officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cantius cemetery. Dorothy Mueller FORT MEYERS, Fla. - Dorothy J. Mueller, 67, Fort Meyers, formerly of LaPorte, died at 5:35 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 18, 1997) at Hope Hospice House in Fort Meyers. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Essling Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael P. Heath will officiate. Burial will follow at Door Village Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Mueller was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Union Mills, the daughter of George and Clara Sieble Christenson. Her mother survives. On Nov. 16, 1946, in LaPorte, she married George F. Mueller Sr., who preceded her in death Sept. 10, 1986. Also surviving are one daughter, Marie (Steven) Emerson, Fort Meyers; one son, George F. (Loretta) Mueller Jr., LaPorte; one brother, Daniel G. Christenson, Schertz, Texas; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mueller retired from LaPorte Hospital as a nursing aide after 37 years of service. She was a member of the Door Village United Methodist Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the LaPorte Hospital Retiree Group.

Mulvey, Bernard - Michigan City Evening Dispatch, Thurs. 9 June 1911, p. 1, c. 5 - Second Grave Marker - Resting Place of Bernard Mulvey Not To Be Forgotten - - - Pittsburg Society of Foreign War Veterans Sends Iron Devise Bearing Order's Emblems
  Bernard Mulvey, the Pittsburg tramp who died here a couple of years ago as the result of injuries sustained by falling from a pile of lumber in the Root planning mill, will never sleep in an unmarked grave, even if the grass and weeds do get pretty high in summer time, and the snow piles up quite deep in winter. Mulvey died here in 1908, and in 1909, the government sent to L. J. Weiler, then superintendent of police, a stone grave marker, which was placed at the head of the unfortunate's grave.
  This morning Mr. Weiler, now desk sergeant, received by express an iron marker from William McKinley post, American Veterans of Foreign Service, Pittsburg. A letter from the post adjutant, Geo. H. MYER, JOHN M. – Unknown La Porte newspaper, 11 April 1923 - Death claimed John M. Myer, formerly of Rolling Prairie, at the Holy Family hospital at 6:40 a. m. today. Mr. Myer, who was 77 years old, had been ill for several months. Deceased man was born in Union county, this state, July 5, 1845 . He came to La Porte county from Wabash county and had lived here 25 years at the time of his death. He married Mary Morton of Wabash county in 1876. Mr. Myer was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He leaves a son, Clyde Myer, of South Bend ; a brother, E. M. Myer of New Carlisle, and a grandson, Howard Myer, of South Bend . Mrs. Myer died April 1, 18 years ago. The funeral rites will be held in the Rolling Prairie Christian church at 2 p. m. Saturday. The Rev. Mr. Oxley of Rolling Prairie will be in charge. Burial will be in Rolling Prairie. The G. A. R. will be in charge of the funeral service. E. E. Ebbert is the undertaker.

Bernard W. Myers, 56, route 1, Wanatah, died at 3:15 a.m. today at the Holy Family hospital.
  He was born June 11, 1903 in Baltimore, Md., to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Myers. Mr. Myers had been a resident of Wanatah for the past six years, going there from Chicago.
  He was a retired foreman for the Interlake corporation of Chicago. On Aug. 24, 1935 in St. Francisville, Ill., he was married to Marie Halbig.
  Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Peter Stetzler, Parkersburg, W. Va., and Mrs. Tom Kuffner, Chicago; four brothers, Orval and Amos Myers, both of Baltimore, Md.; Charles Myers, LaPorte, and Harry, Westminster, Md.; five sisters, Mrs. Omah Montgomery and Mrs. Otto Knopp, both of Lebanon, Mo.; Mrs. Miles Dee, Mt. Carmel, Ill.; Mrs. Aubra Brown, Kouts, Ind., and Mrs. Kathryne Zepp, Westminster, Md.
  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wiesjahn Funeral home at Wanatah with the Rev. M. J. Kelner officiating.
  Burial will be in Hanna Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wiesjahn chapel tomorrow afternoon and evening and until the time of services.
