Jakelski, Margaret Peo  - Aug. 26, 1970     Margaret Peo Jakelski Dies at 54
    Margaret Jakelski, 54, 815 E. 11th St., wife of Edward F. Jakelski, longtime employee of The News-Dispatch, died this morning at 5:40 in Memorial Hospital after an illness of one week. Her husband, who is a journeyman printer in charge of make-up, joined The Evening Dispatch in 1933 and continued after the merger with the Michigan City News. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church with the Rev. Stanley Dominik officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at Ott Funeral Chapel Friday and Saturday until the hour of services. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Jakelski was born here Jan. 16, 1916, the daughter of Edward and Mary Nespo Peo. She was married here June 27, 1936. Survivors include the widower; her mother, of this city; a daughter, Mrs. Robert E. Brandon, Jr., this city; two grandchildren; and two brothers -- Clarence and Carl Peo, both of this City. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and the Rosary Club, and was secretary of the Paderewski Club.

Janicka, Mrs. Katherine - MICHIGAN CITY EVENING NEWS, Wednesday, 11 May 1914, p. 1. c. l     Mrs Katherine Janicka, aged 71 years, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Przbylinski, near Beatty's Corners. Besides the husband, she leaves seven children, Mrs. Anthony Satkoske, Mrs. Frank Prbylinski, Mary Julia, Bronislaus, Peter and Steve, all of Otis, with the exception of Julia, who is in a convent of the Felecian Sisters, O. S. A., in Buffalo, N.Y. The funeral will take place at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning from St. Mary's Church in Otis.

Janz, Marion - Michigan City’s News-Dispatch - Monday, 22 January, 1996     "Marion W. Janz, 81, Michigan City, died at 3:10 a.m. Friday (Jan. 19, 1996) at Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. V. Pat Butler will officiate.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, and from 10 a.m. until the service Monday at the church.
Mrs. Janz was born April 11, 1914, in Syracuse, Ind., the daughter of Frank S. and Augusta Zach Raymond. On April 12, 1936, in Michigan City, she married Wallace C. Janz, who died Feb. 1, 1955. Survivors include one daughter, Lynne Mahoney, Portage; and three grand children, Lynne Marie Dohner, Barbara Ann Janz and Susan Rae Bradford. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Wallis; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; one sister, Irene Terry; and two brothers, Harry and Garland Raymond.
Mrs. Janz had lived in Michigan City for more than 70 years. She was a legal secretary for 30 years. She was a member for over 70 years of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Heritage Person, a deacon and an elder, a 1953 National Missions member, and a member of the Amy Arnt Circle. She was also a member of Professional Secretaries Inc., Hi-Tri Sorority, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Prime-Timers, and a Red Cross volunteer. She was an honorary life member of the PTA and chairman of the Jonah Fish Fry for many years.

Stumbled across obit of my mother Marion Janz and then my uncle Harry Raymond. He was buried in lot between my mother and my grandmother , Augusta Raymond. Also at the foot of Harrys grave is his brother's ashes Garland Raymond. Also, read a listing for my father on the site, with a blank for his first name. His name was Wallace Carl Janz and buried next to my mother. I also have a stillborn sister who has an unmarked grave. I believe she is buried at the foot of my paternal grandparents, Louise and Julius Glafcke. Also, saw a question if a Judith Olson is deceased. I'm almost 100% she is.

JARRELL, SARAH MATILDA – LaPorte Herald Argus, Monday, January 6, 1958 p2     Mrs. Sarah Matilda Jarrell, 96, of 1124 South Main street, South Bend, formerly of LaPorte, died at 12:30 o'clock this morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Eva Rummel. The daughter of Joseph and Polly Hostetler, she was born November 30, 1861 in Wills township, LaPorte county. She was married June 20, 1907 to Henry Jerrell in LaPorte. She lived in South Bend 20 years, going there from Tyner. She was a member of the Sauktown Christian church. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Eva Rummel, South Bend, and Mrs. Mabel Miller, New Carlisle, and a brother, David M. Hostetler, South Bend. Her husband, two sisters and five brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock Wednesday at the Haverstock chapel with burial in Sauktown cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after noon tomorrow.

    ROLLING PRAIRIE - Janet Louise Jeffrey, 75, Rolling Prairie, died at 8:12 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at LaPorte Hospital.
   The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. Floyd Wilcox and the Rev. Dennis Pycraft officiating. Burial will be in Foster Cemetery, Rolling Prairie. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
  Mrs. Jeffrey was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Beaver Falls, Pa., the daughter of Frank P. and Helen Canfield Caler. Her mother survives in Minneapolis. On June 22, 1957, in Portage, she married Donald L. Jeffrey, who survives.
  Also surviving are a daughter, Karen (Dean) Luedtke, Minneapolis, Minn.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie (Vance) Albert, Culver, Ind.; a brother, Frank Caler, San Antonio, Texas; and nine nieces and nephews. A stepson, Max Jeffrey, and a brother, Marvin Caler, both preceded her in death.
  Mrs. Jeffrey had worked for Publishers Continental Sales, Michigan City, Dr. Charles Griffin, Valparaiso, and Hospital Microfilming Co., Chesterton. She was a member of Galena Baptist Church, and wrote many articles that were published including a book, "Galena," that was an account of life in Galena Township during the 1930s, and she enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States.

Jenkins, Harry K. - MDND, Mon, 6 Dec 1948 - Harry Kenneth (Bud) Jenkins, 32, 719 Fairfield died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Chicago Memorial hospital following a one-week illness.
  Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Carlisle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening and Wednesday until the funeral hour.
  Mr. Jenkins was born April 20, 1916, in Wanatah. He was the son of Harry M. and the late Murtle May Sopher and was employed by the Chicago South Shore and South Bend railroad.
  Surviving are his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs Harry M. Jenkins this city; four sisters - Mrs. Leona Lachmund, Mrs. Jennie Whie, Mrs. Ethel Rowlands and Mrs. Kay Krueger, and four brothers -- Orval, Donald, Cecil and Gerald Jenkins all of this city. The deceased was a member of the Church of the Brethen. Contributed by local researcher and historian.

Johnson, Grace May - La Porte Daily Herald, Friday, September 16, 1898    Grace May Johnson, the 7-year-old daughter of Mrs. Willard Warner, died this morning at 5 o'clock, of convulsions. The child had been a sufferer all her life and had been in a helpless condition. During the past eight weeks she had grown weak very fast, the convulsions becoming more frequent until death relieved the poor little sufferer. Everything was done to relieve her but it was of no avail. The funeral will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the home, 809 Ridge street, Rev. C.L. Bovard officiating. Burial at Foster's cemetery. Austin Cutler has charge of the funeral.

    Grace May Johnson, the little daughter of Mrs. Willard Warner, was buried yesterday afternoon, services being held at the house, 809 Ridge street, at 3 o'clock. Rev. C. L. Bovard officiated. The attendance was so large that many were unable to gain admittance to the house. There were many floral pieces, it requiring four little girls to carry them. These were: Alice Collar, Clara Weldeman, Bertha Bailey, Florence Tanner. The pallbearers were also little misses, they being: Ethel Francis, Lillie Meining, Lea Couch, May Hutchinson, Verna Sonneborn, Hazel Siegel. The flower carriers and pallbearers were dressed in white and walked beside the funeral car from the house to Patton's cemetery, where the remains were laid at rest

    Helen Ann Johnson, 57, 3200 Dody St., died at 11:55 a.m. yesterday (May 15, 1979) at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago, Ind., after a one-month illness.
  Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Carlisle Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Matteson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call tomorrow afternoon and evening and until the service at the funeral home.
  Mrs. Johnson was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Lansing, Ohio, to Frank and Rose Bugaj. She was married here July 31, 1943, to Robert Johnson, who survives.
  Also surviving are two children, Myla Lynn Spitka and David, both of this city; one grandson; two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. George (Ann) Butch, Stanley and Walter, all of Lansing; Mrs. Victoria Juba, Tiltonsville, Ohio; and Henry, Barton, Ohio. Two brothers, Joseph and Frank, are deceased.

Johnson, George E. - News Dispatch, Michigan City, Indiana - Feb 11, 2002, p.2, c. 4     George E. Johnson, 85, died at 6:10 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 9, 2002) at Carroll Woods Nursing Center. The funeral is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Haverstock Funderal Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Burial is in Carmel Cemetery, LaPorte.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 12, 1916, in LaPorte to Frank and Christina Johnson. In August 1946, in Michigan City, he married Jean Mary Szymanszek. She died Dec. 8, 1962.
  Surviving are a daughter, Marian Hareroad, Indianapolis; a son, Raymond Johnson, Michigan City; two stepdaughters, Julie Hill, LaPorte, Deloris Kalita, Michigan City; a stepson, Chester Grys, LaPorte; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. A sister, Violet Adams, preceded him in death. Mr. Johnson was a security officer with Security, Inc. He was confirmed in 1932 at Bethany Lutheran Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Jones - TWO ARE DEAD Diphtheria Claims Two Victims in Kankakee Township Two children in the family of Ferdinand Jones, living at Rolling Prairie, Have fallen victims to diphtheria. One death, that of a three-year-old daughter, took place Sunday, and yesterday another child succumbed to the dread disease. The health authorities are maintaining quarantine measures which will not be relaxed until all danger of the disease spreading have been obviated. The theory prevails that the cases in the Jones family were contracted from persons who had come from South Bend which is being scourged by the malady. Undertaker Weir buried the bodies of the two little victims. (note burial at Wills Baptist)

INFANT DAUGHTER JONES – La Porte Herald, Wednesday, 28 August 1895 – Friday forenoon the funeral services of Mr. and Mrs. Landy Jones’s little daughter were held at the M. E. church, Rev. C. D. Royse officiating. The little one was a bright, pretty child, but was not strong and proved an easy prey to cholera infantum. She was taken to the Baptist cemetery and laid beside another little one there.

Jones, Abigail H. - June 1928 Abigail H. Jones Mrs. Abigail Jones, age 89 years, of Rolling Prairie, died this morning at 3:15 after a two years’ illness of complications. She was born June 16, 1839, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Linder of Massillon, O. She lived in Rolling Prairie practically all her life. On Oct. 13, 1856, she was married to John Jones, who preceded her in death 25 years ago. She was a member of the Methodist church and the Rebekah Lodge. Surviving are two sons, Arthur and Ferdinand, of Rolling Prairie, 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Five sons and a daughter preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, the Rev. C.M. Bless officiating. The body may be viewed until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in the Baptist cemetery with O.M. Haverstock in charge.

Jones, 74, of Rolling Prairie, who died Sunday morning at the Holy Family hospital following a month illness, will be held Wednesday at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church, Rolling Prairie. Born in Starke County April 25, 1873 to Wilson and Lucretia Lampson, Mrs. Jones lived in LaPorte County most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlando Jones, who died in 1925. The couple was married Nov. 21, 1889 at Galien, Mich. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Methodist church, Rolling Prairie, as well as the W.S.C.S. of the church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Nedra Dudley; two sons, Orlando W. and Basil F. Jones, all of Rolling Prairie,12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two sons, a daughter, two sisters and a brother, preceded her in death. The body may be viewed at the Haverstock funeral chapel until 11 o’clock Wednesday morning and at the Rolling Prairie Methodist church from 12 o’clock Wednesday until time of the funeral.
