ST.
MARY’S HIGH SCHOOL
Michigan City, IN
When the new St. Mary’s School building was built in 1886 at the southeast corner of Boston (now 10th) and Buffalo Streets, the Sisters of the Holy Cross also conducted a high school department as well as the grade school. However, in the early days many students only completed one, two or three years of high school before leaving to go to work. Other than in 1894 there were no four-year graduates until 1927.
