The following is a typed version of
Joseph Louis Kertesz' handwritten last Will and Testament, dated May
10, 1922. There are parts of the Will that are very difficult to
read and, therefore, may be omitted or incorrect. The Will was
written by someone other than Joseph Kertesz.

Joseph L. Kertesz
Of
The City of Gary, Lake County, Indiana
I, Joseph L. Kertesz, of the city of
Gary in the county of Lake and state of Indiana being of full age
and sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this
frail and transitory (?) life do therefore make, ordain, publish,
and declare this to be my last will and testament hereby revoking
all wills and testa-menting (?) before us heretofore made by me.
Item One (1): I hereby direct the
executrix of my estate hereinafter named to pay out of my estate as
soon as possible after my decease all my debts, funeral and
testimentary expenses.
Item Two (2): I bequeath the following
legacies. To my son, Taza (Gaza?)-also known as Gustov Kertesz, the
sum of ten dollars ($10.00). To my daughter Elizabeth Kertesz, the
sum of fifty dollars ($50.00)
and my piano, to my son Eugene Kertesz,
the sum of twenty five dollars ($25.00). To my son Belta (Bella?)
also known as Bennie Kertesz, the sum of twenty five dollars
($25.00).
Item Three (3): I give, devise, and
bequeath to my other children, each share and share alike, namely my
daughter Lena Kertesz and my sons Louis Kertesz, William Kertesz,
and John Kertesz, absolutely all
the rest, residue and remainder of my
property (?) real personal and ____, of which I've (?) seized and
possessed. All of my mentioned four children being of tender years
and health (?), direct that the
executrix of my estate be appointed
their guardian in I direct that she be exempt from giving any surety
or sureties on her official bond as such guardian.
Item Four (4): I hearby appoint Mrs.
Anna Mazag, of the city of Gary and county and state sole executrix
of this my will and I direct that she be exempt from giving any
surety or sureties on her official bond.
In witness whereof, I, Joseph L.
Kertesz, have to this my list and testament consisting of two pages,
written in ink (?) subscribed my name in offered my seal this tenth
(10th) day of May, 1922.

The above written instrument was
subscribed by the said Joseph L. Kertesz in our presence and in the
presence of each other and acknowledged by him to each of us in the
presence of each other
and be it the same time published and
declared the above instrument so subscribed to be his last will and
testament; and we as the testators request (?) and in his presence
and in the presence of
each other have signed on ____ as
witnesses hereto, and written opposite our names our effective
places of residence.
