The first Will recorded in Kosciusko County is found in 1844. Most of the Wills noted are on the microfilmed Will Books at the Kosciusko County Historical Society. The Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne has the microfilm of the Wills through Book 5. A few have been found in the Miscellaneous Court Record Books in the Kosciusko County Recorders Office. If the Will is shown in one of the numbered Will books it is available on microfilm. If it is shown in a lettered Misc. Book it must be ordered from the Kosciusko County Recorders office.
Not all Wills were probated in Kosciusko County. Some are copies of Wills probated in other counties that were needed here to clear up a matter concerning this county. The date listed is the original probate date which is not always the date that it was recorded in this county. One Will was not recorded here until 50 years after the man died. The same person's name will sometimes be shown twice on different pages. In this case the person may have had 2 Wills or the "widows election" or "codicill" may be found at a different place than the Will.
Sue Zellers will look up Will records from 1920 to 1960. Or contact Librarian
