It was his job to keep transport and supply planes flying over the hump. He was taken from the farm and sent to Yale for Officers Candidate School.

Chattin of RT 5 Vincennes IN (note of interest) ROTC all through college, entered directly into the military via ROTC, a major in the Air Force--was the first American doctor in Africa--he was in Africa in January 1942 after Pearl Harbor in 1941.
