ROBERT R. JACKSON

BICKNELL - Robert R. Jackson, 82, Ragsdale, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Ragsdale, to Charles and Ruth (Weaver) Jackson.

Robert was a carpenter at Crane Naval Depot. He was affiliated with Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church. Robert was a loving, caring person who loved to ride a 4-wheeler; loved wood working and making furniture.

He served with the US Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was presented with a Purple Heart.

His wife, Ellen R. (Helderman) Jackson, passed away on Oct. 3, 2003. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Melvin of Vincennes and Debbie Keene of Ragsdale; two grandchildren, Elena Rebecca Keene of Ragsdale and Levi R. Melvin of Vincennes; and a niece, Sharon Taylor of Bloomington.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel, 109 E. Sixth St., with the Rev. Jack Haskins officiating. Cremation will follow. There will be a private memorial service at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
