Here I plan on putting up list of Knox county residents who have enlisted into the arm forces of the United States and fought during Operation Iraqi Freedom. This will be a slow process as I am finding the information from old newspapers and submission from users. All will be listed in a flat page, when the list gets to large for this I will break them up into a menu.
If you have a loved one that your are proud of and wish to add his name or achievements to this list , please email me at stangle@charter.net
Operation Iraq Freedom (Iraq War)
Gary Fisher Sgt Company A 152nd Inf 76 Brigade of the Indiana Army National Guard unit in Vincennes IN. His excellent and efficient manner in the way he ran the unit's Paper work kept the war effort running at a smooth pace. Gary was very hurt when his unit High Command made the decision to leave Gary back at the unit armory to maintain the war effort on the home side , and manage the family support. Gary was the only man who could have handled this task. Of course he had help with his Wife Ruth Fisher. Gary Died of natural causes while the unit was away and deployed in Iraq.
Ruth Fisher Organizer of the Family support and Soldier relief group , because of Ruth and the groups efforts the deployed soldiers received much needed items from home. They organized donation drop centers and fund raisers to get the items that the soldiers needed. Other members of the Group included Helen Raines and Mrs Kerns (sorry forgot your first name) . Ruth supported the unit before the war and continues to this day after the unit came back home. While I was in the unit I can remember Ruth and her son Mike getting up early and cooking breakfast for the solders before we would go to our weekend drills. The mess section would be already loaded and was left unto the individual solders to get breakfast for themselves.
