Here I plan on putting up list of Knox county residents who have enlisted into the arm forces of the United States and fought  during Civil War. This will be a slow process as I am finding the information from old newspapers and submission from users. All will be listed in a flat page, when the list gets to large for this I will break them up into a menu.

Agnew John H  Co B 143 Ind Infantry  died 1-12-1869 age 24y11m

Buckles , Andrew Jackson  Company B 26th Inf. Regt. Union Army. He was born in 1833 in Bicknell, Knox, IN to Robert Buckles and Sarah Bicknell.
Buckles , John Company B 26th Inf. Regt. Union Army. He was born in 1827 in Bicknell, Knox, IN to Robert Buckles and Sarah Bicknell. He was killed on 29 Oct 1862 at Camp Au Reverie, MO.
 
Buckles, Joseph (James)  Company I 29th Regular Indiana Infantry. He was born 1824 in Edwardsport, Knox, IN to Robert Buckles and Sarah Bicknell. He died in 1904.
 
Buckles, Martin Van Buren  Company B 26th Inf. Regt. Union Army. He was born in 1828 in Knox Co., IN to Robert Buckles and Sarah Bicknell. He also went by Van Buren and Martin V. Buckles. 
 
BUCKLES , WILLIAM: Company B 26th IN Inf. Regt. Union Army. Born in 1829 in Bicknell, Knox county , IN to Robert Buckles and Sarah Bicknell. He was wounded in battle on 7 Dec 1862 . He died on 23 Dec 1862 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas when he was wounded in the leg. He is buried in the Edwardsport Town Cemetery in a unmarked grave.

Daffron ,John Wesley 16 when he enrolled in the Union Army in Vincennes on Sept. 3, 1862, but he gave his age as 18 and mustered in as a private in Captain Lewis'  80th Reg't, Indiana Inf, Co. <read more click here>

Ferguson ,William H. Private ,served in Company C of the 144th Indiana Infantry , He was a private and was only 16-17 years old from all evidence during his 1865 service, marrying local girl Elizabeth A. McWilliams.  He died in 1917, and is buried in the city cemetery

HEDRICk , William P.  , Wheatland Indiana, army during the civil war and was a member of Company R (sic), 44th Indiana regulars
 
Hennon, John Charles  corporal in Company D of the 148th Indiana Regiment during the Civil War. 
 
Hulen, William served as a musician in Company H, 56th Illinois Infantry Regiment from 27 Feb, 1862 to 29 Sep, 1862 born Aug, 1823 Edwardsport, IN, died 28 Oct, 1902 in Sanborn, IN with burial in the Sanborn Cemetery. 
 
Jenkins , Samuel , served with Company F, 13th Indiana Infantry from December 1864 to September 1865. He participated in the 2nd Assault and Capture for Fort Fisher, North Carolina, the Assault and Capture of Raleigh, N.C. and "other duties throughout the Carolinas. He was mustered in by a Captain Johnson at Evansville. This information is documented in the National Archives and I have a certified copy of his military papers.

Miller, Allen   Co K 121 Ind Volunteer Cavalry    Allen enlisted Feb 1864 and was in the battles of Pulaski, Columbia, Franklin, Nashville, Spring Hill, and Sugar Creek.  He was taken prisoner near Columbia and also near Franklin but managed to escape both times.  He was mustered out at Vicksburg Mississippi in Aug of 1865 and was discharged at Indianapolis.  He then returned home and resumed farming. He was born Aug 31, 1847 and died in 1889. He is buried in Miller Cemetery in Decker Township in what once was the front yard of the Miller Home. 

Patten ,George Washington  served with 17th reg. vol inf. co. I in Wilders Brigade was with his brothers in the war, and moved on to Kansas.

 
Patten , Henry Harry Harrison  served with 17th reg. vol inf. co. I in Wilders Brigade and went on to Kansas. The son James Bonaparte Patten was capt. co I  17TH. reg.inf. , then 137th. Co. C  U.S. Col'd Inf.. Then became a lawyer in Sullivan Co. md. Sarah Griffith on 10-2- 1865. (the son of Joshua Thomas Patten listed here)
Patten , Joshua Thomas  Jr served in Co. F, 115th. REG. Indiana Infantry between July 1st. 1863- Feb. 25th. 1864 Joshua was a newspaper reporter/editor and a Presbyterian minister. He was a pilot of flat bottom boats, which he made 21 trips out of Wabash River to New Orleans. (Which his Father before him made them at Edwardsport on the White River, where one fell on him and killed him.) He married Barbara Crooks in Knox CO. 10-8-1835. they later moved to Kansas.
