Notes for BARBARA:

I have spelled the name Rinehart since that is how Barabara spells it in the 1860 census. Barbara had her last
child Nicholas in 1858 so her husband must have died between 1857 and 1860. Her son Michael was farming the
land they lived on at the age of 19, and his older brother John was a boot and shoemaker. Barbara lists her place
of birth as France.

By 1870 Barbara was not listed as head of household but the property must still be in her name as that is how it
shows on the census line. Barbara and her two youngest, Anne and Nicholas are living with Michael (head) and
his wife Bridget. This year Barbara says she was born in Bavaria. Surname still spelled Rinehart

Barbara in 1880, p13 Spencer Township, Jennings Co. living with Lizzie Oliger, her daughter. Barbara says her
father was born in France, she and her mother were born in Bavaria. Lizzie is a widow already and she says her
father's birthplace was France. In 1880 Michael says his parents are from France. Since there is no 1890 census I
have not pinned down a date of death for Barbara.

In 1860 Michael is still single and farming the family property. The property real and personal is listed as 700
and Barbara is the head of the house. By 1870 Michael has married Bridget in Jennings County and is still
farming his mother's property. Only two of Barbara's unmarried children are still living at home, Anna and
Nicholas. Real and personal property are totalled at $1,300.
1880 census Jennings Co., Spencer Township, Indiana, Barbara has moved in with her widowed daughter Lizzie
Oliger and children and MIchael is still running the farm. Michael and Bridget now have 3 children, the youngest
of which is Louis, having been born in December of 1879.
1910 the family name appears as Reinhart and Michael says his parents came from Germany. Bridget has passed
away and oldest daughter Elizabeth lists her occupation as a schoolteacher. Michael, at 62, says he is a laborer.
They live at 127 Broadway, with Lewis (Louis) a brakeman on the RR, Joseph a salesman at a grocery store and
Kattie a compositor at a printing office.

In 1920 the name is spelled again as Rinehart by son Louis. Michael ia living in Indianapolis. 1221 N Oriental with daughter Mary.

Marriage Notes for LOUIS REINHART and MARY QUINN:
I don't know why they went to Louisville to get married. Mary was of legal age at 20, Louis was 13 years her
senior, perhaps her family was not happy about that. After receiving the marriage register I saw that the
witnesses were Leo and Mary Scannell. Leo lived in Louisville and was a railroad engineer, so it seems that
Leo and Louis worked together.
