Three deeds pertaining to Solomon and Mary Davis and their family

September 13, 1837. Solomon & Mary Davis sell to William Kempton 30 acres of land for $150. Recorded June 25, 1838. Vol. O, p. 512-513.

This indenture made the thirteenth day of September in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty seven between Solomon Davis snr and Mary his wife of Jefferson County...and William Kempton of the County of Clark...in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars lawful money of the united States to them in hand well and truly paid...sell...a certain lot or tract of land bounded and situate as follows (viz) A part of the North West quarter of section nineteen Township three North of Range Nine East Lying in the South West corner of said quarter thence running East seventy five poles thence due North sixty poles thence west to the west line of said quarter thence south with the line to the place of beginning containing thirty acres be the same more or less lying in the county of Jefferson...To have and to hold...Solomon Davis and Mary his wife...will warrant and forever defend the aforesaid premises...In witness whereof the said Solomon Davis snr and Mary his wife had hereunto set their hands and seals

signed sealed and delivered in presence of Charles T. Davis James Woodburn John Dungan

...before me John Dungan a Justice of the peace...personally appeared Solomon Davis senr...together with Mary Davis the wife of the said Solomon Davis and acknowledged the above deed of conveyance...and the Said Mary Davis...being by me examined Separate and apart from her husband...she did voluntarily and of her own free will...sign seal and deliver the said deed...given under my hand this 21. day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty Eight.

October 16, 1838. Solomon & Mary Davis sell to William Kempton 126 acres of land for $700. Recorded November 7, 1838. Vol. P, p. 154-156.

This Indenture made the sixteenth day of October in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty Eight between Solomon Davis Senr and Mary his wife of Jefferson County...and William Kempton of the County...aforesaid...in consideration of the sum of Seven Hundred Dollars lawful money of the United States to them in hand well and truly paid...sell...all that tract or parcel of land bounded and situate as follows (viz) being one hundred and twenty Six acres of the North West quarter of section nineteen Township three North of Range Nine East be there more or less lying in the county of Jefferson...To have and to hold...Solomon Davis senr and Mary his wife...will warrant and forever defend the aforesaid premises...In witness whereof the said Solomon Davis snr and Mary his wife had hereunto set their hands and seals

On December 28, 1844, the heirs of Solomon Davis, Sr. buy back, for $700, from William & Sarah Kempton a 9/10ths share of the 126 acres previously sold to them by Solomon & Mary Davis in 1838. Recorded June 27, 1848. The heirs are described as Solomon Davis, Jr.; Charles T. Davis; Littleton W. Davis; Jane Adams; Betsy Davis; Handy T. Davis; Mary Woodburn; William Davis; James Davis; May [Mary?] Jones; Samuel Duncan; Easter [Erastus?] Duncan; Sarah Milance [Willock?]; and Preston Duncan. Vol. 3, p. 421-422.

This Indenture made this Twenty eighth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred forty four between William Kcmpton and Sarah his wife of the first part and the heirs at law of Solomon Davis Sr to wit Solomon Davis Jr Charles T. Davis Littleton W. Davis Jane Adams Betsy Davis Handy T. Davis Mary Woodburn children of said, and William Davis James Davis May [Mary?] Jones Samuel Duncan Easter Duncan Sarah Milance [?] Preston Duncan and children of sol. decd of the second part, Witnesseth, that....in consideration of the sum of seven hundred dollars lawful money of the United States to them in hand well and truly paid...sell...all the undivided nine tenths of that tract of land bounded and situated as follows, viz. being one hundred and twenty six, 126, acres of the North West quarter of Section Nineteen Township three North of Range Nine East, be the same more or less...being the same premises heretofore conveyed to said William Kempton by said Joshua [sic~he clerk wasn't paying attention] Davis Sr decd & his wife which deed is upon the Records in the Recorders [?] office...To Have and To Hold...parties of the first part...will Warrant and forever Defend the aforesaid premises...set their hand and seals...

Before me Alexander A Hannah (J.P.)...personally appeared William Kempton and Sarah his wife...a private examination separate and apart from and without the hearing of her said husband she declared...her own free will and accord....set my hand and affixed my seal this 18th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and 45.
