Orlo Benders Will Observe Golden Anniversary Tuesday
Couple Married in Redkey
Mr. and Mrs. Orlo O. Bender, 1812 Shopp Ave.,
will observe their golden wedding anniversary quietly with a dinner Tuesday.
Their son, Richard, who is a professor of philosophy at Baker university at
Baldwin,
Kans., is expected to attend.
Mrs. Bender, the former Iva E. Giddings
of Luther, Mich.,
and Mr. Bender of Fostoria, O., were
married at the Methodist parsonage in Red Key by Rev. C.W. Lynch on
Dec. 28, 1898. At Red Key, Mrs. Bender managed the Bell
Telephone exchange and Mr. Bender was a glassworker and later a mail carrier.
For a wedding trip, they visited Mr. Bender's parents and friends at
Fostoria, O.
They came to New Castle
in 1916 and purchased a grocery store on D Avenue.
Later they operated a grocery on Broad St.
and also one on North Main St.
They have now retired.
Two sons, Ralph and Richard, were born to the couple.
They have three grandsons, Robert of Charleston, W. Va.,
Max, of New Castle, and Ralph, Jr.,
of Chicago. There is also one
grand daughter and one great grand daughter.
