Local woman’s mother dies at Portland
Susanna
Elizabeth Shirk, 78, of Portland, mother of Mrs. Buck (Mildred) Richards of
Decatur, died Thursday morning at her home following an extended illness.
She was born May 18, 1896 in Redkey, the daughter of George Riley and Flora
Alice Crist-Booher.
She was first married to Willis Monroe Hiestand
in 1916, and later to James Homer Shirk. He died March 11, 1954.
Surviving are two sons, John Heistand of Bryant, and James Heistand of
Portland; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Butcher of Portland; Mrs. Robert
(Elizabeth) Saunders of Portland; Mrs. Buck (Mildred) Richards of Decatur;
Mrs. Delbert (Burnice)sic Davison of Portland, and Mrs. Roy (Imogene) Walker
of Portland; and two step children, Mrs. Elisha Loy of Ridgeville, and
Charles Shirk of Dayton, O.
Also surviving are 29 grandchildren and
25 great-grandchildren, one brother, Ray Booher of Redkey, and a sister,
Mrs. Bertha Lehman of Celina O.
Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m. today at the Baird-Freeman funeral home, Portland, with Rev. C.F. Pasko
of the Portland Nazarene Church officiating. Burial will be in the Union
Chapel cemetery.
