Elmer L. Walter, age 93 a resident of Greene Twp, Jay County passed away
Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center in Bluffton,
Indiana. He farmed in Green Twp for many years and was a bus driver for 15
years with Jay School Corp. He attended Union Chapel Church west of Bryant,
and The Rock Church in Portland. He was a US Army veteran of WWII.
Elmer Walter was born August 26, 1923 in Greene Twp., the son of Arlet and
Lena (Siders) Walter. He was married March 4, 1943 to Crystal Wilson and she
passed away on May 20, 1992. He then married Betty Poling and she passed
away on December 2, 2010.

1 Son- Allen
Walter (wife-Stacie), Portland, Indiana
1 Daughter- Brenda Barcus
(husband-Steve), Portland, Indiana
2 Brothers- Harold Walter,
Pennville, Indiana
Ray Walter (wife-Grace), Pennville, Indiana
2 Sisters- Martha Brosher (husband-Ivan), Lindale, Texas
Mary Mae
Swearman, Springhill, Tennessee
7 Grandchildren and 5 Great
Grandchildren
1 Son- Scott Walter preceded him in death
Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Monday in the Williamson and Spencer
Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm
Tuesday in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Pastor Mike
Harris will officiate the services and burial will follow in the IOOF Twin
Hills Cemetery in Pennville. American Legion Post 211 will be in charge of
military rites at the cemetery.
