James (Herb) Hoover, 83, Montpelier, died at 1:12 p.m. Thursday,
Feb. 5 at his home.
A former Corning Glass employee, he retired from the
Bluffton plant in 1982 and had lived in Lake Alfred, Fla., for several years
before moving to Montpelier in 2000. He had lived in the Pennville area
prior to moving to Florida and was a member of the Millard-Brown American
Legion Post 156 in Montpelier.
Born June 5, 1920 in Blackford County to James O. and Adella M. Pence
Hoover, he was a 1938 graduate of Pennville High School and married Marvel
A. Bosserman on Aug. 1, 1946 in New Haven; she died Jan. 25, 1999. He served
in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include three daughters,
Sharon McCune of Bluffton, Kay Miller of Crawford, Tenn., and SaDonna Cruz
of Morgan Hill, Calif.; three sons, Phillip Hoover and Michael Carroll, both
of Montpelier, and Dale Hoover of Pearland, Texas; a brother, Vaughn Hoover
of Lafayette; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by a grandson and a great granddaughter.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Glancy Funeral Home,
Walker Chapel in Montpelier, with services scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m.
at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be performed by the
American Legion. Burial will be in the Pennville I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Preferred memorials to the Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana or the
Montpelier-Harrison Township Cancer Society.
