Youth, 19, Ill With Polio 3 Years, Dies

MONTPELIER—Stricken with polio over three years ago, Ronald Drew Harter, 19, died in his parent’ home at Poneto at 6:50 a.m. today. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Harter.

He was stricken with the disease on July 31, 1952 and had been confined in the Lutheran Hospital at Fort Wayne for two years and five months. Later he received treatment at the Warm Springs Hospital in Warm Springs, Ga. Harter was returned to his home in March of this year.

He was six feet, five inches tall and played basketball for the Petroleum High School until becoming ill. He was a lifetime resident of Wells County.

Surviving besides the parents and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harter, Bluffton.

The body was taken to the ?? Chapel here where friends may call??. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, the Rev. Fred Wright, Fort Wayne, officiating. Burial will be in the Twin Hill Cemetery at Pennville.
