Eldon (John) Leon Craig, age 84, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021
at his home in Cottonwood, Arizona. He graduated from Bryant High School in
1955 and was a veteran of the US Marines where he served as an Embassy Guard
at the United States Embassy in Rome, Italy. He retired from the US Post
Office after working for many years as a letter carrier in Portland,
Indiana.
Eldon Craig was born August 28, 1937 in Jay County the son of
Roy and Martha Etta (Brumbaugh) Craig.
He is survived by his three
daughters-
Christia Hewlett (husband BJ), Hollywood, Florida
Michelle
Goodhew, Ridgeville, Indiana
Nicole Craig, Cottonwood, Arizona
Grandson Craig Goodhew & Granddaughter Christiana (Yzzy) Hewlett
Brother
Steve Craig, Portland, Indiana
Sister Arlene Franklin (husband-Ralph),
New Castle, Indiana
Numerous nieces and nephews
He is preceded in
death by six of his siblings: Virginia Brockway, Verlin (Doc) Craig, Lois
(Katie) Gillum, Dale Craig, Alva Dean Craig and Nancy Meshberger, Warren
Eldon enjoyed fishing, gardening, train rides and spending time with his
family. He also loved to spend time talking with his Marine friends about
their service together. In his community in Centreville, VA he was well
known for being a kindly neighbor who always helped others mow their yard
and had time to visit and talk.
Visitation will be held Saturday
October 30th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod
Funeral Home in Portland, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm
on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery
in Pennville, Indiana. American Legion Post #211 of Portland and the Marine
Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.
In lieu of
flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital.
