Mother of county resident dies
Mrs. Opal C.
Hurst, 87, of Portland, mother of Jack Hurst of near Geneva, died Monday
evening at the Jay county hospital. She had been in failing health for
several weeks.
Born in Wells county on Jan. 13, 1886, she was the
daughter of Jesse and Caroline Leggett-Prouty, and was married Nov. 15,
1904, to George A. Hurst, who died Aug. 30, 1955.
Survivors are one
daughter, Mrs. Paul (Dollie) Newman of Montpelier, five sons, Harry K. of
Bluffton; Alva O. of Portland; James of Troy, O.; Jack of near Geneva, and
Jesse E. of route 2, Portland. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at
1:30 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer funeral home in Portland with Rev.
Norman Keen officiating. Burial will be in the Pennville IOOF cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today.
