Jeane Cassel age 93, former rural Portland resident passed away Tuesday
evening November 19, 2019 at Crown Pointe in Portland surrounded by her
loving family. She was born in Jay County on April 19, 1926 the daughter of
Elmer and Opal (Stullen) Bisel. She was married on April 23, 1944 to Jay
Cassel and he preceded her in death on March 15, 1986. She had worked for
Marsh Supermarket for over fifty years. She with her husband Jay were
founding members of the Jay County Horse and Pony Club and she was active in
many other clubs and organizations as well. She with her husband also
operated a dairy farm.
Surviving are her children Rodney Cassel (wife
Cuba) of Portland, Charlene Isenhart (husband James) of Portland, Christina
Billington (husband Terry) of Portland and Stanley Cassel (wife Diana) of
Florida. One sister Ruth Ellen Shockney of Farmland, Ten grandchildren,
seventeen great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren. She is also
survived by her speicial dog Luna who was her loyal companion for nine
years. She was preceded in death by a sister Norma Woods and a grandson Paul
Cassel.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday November 23, 2019
at 2:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Hines
presiding. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Pennville. Visitation
will be Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the State of
the Heart Hospice.
