FORMER SHERIFF OF JAY COUNTY DIES
SERVICES TUESDAY FOR LON J. WEHRLY,
79
Portland, Jan. 25—Lon J. Wehrly, 79, a lifelong resident of Jay
County, residing two miles north of here, died late Saturday night in the
Jay County Hospital after an extended illness.
He served two terms as
Jay County Sheriff and for a number of years ??? business. He also was an
officer of the Jay County Fair for many years, and at the time of his death
was a director of the Jay County Fair Association. Mr. Wehrly was a member
of the ??? church.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Glenn Hummer,
Mrs. Lawrence Harmon, Mrs. Pete Wetzler and Mrs. William Dawson, Portland;
three sons, Keith, J.K. and Robert Wehrly, this city; 14 grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren and a brother Lew Wehrly, Portland.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Baird Funeral Home, the
Rev. Virgil Bjork officiating, assisted by the Rev. Curtis Sampley. Burial
will be in the Salamonia Cemetery [Jay County, Indiana].
