Virgil R. Shreeve age 92 of rural Portland passed away early
Thursday morning in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare. He was born in Portland
February 17, 1926 the son of Charles and Mable (Schmidt) Shreeve. He was
married August 25, 1948 to L. Wanetta Franklin who survives. He served with
the US Army in the 20th Armored Division during WWII. He had worked for
Sheller-Globe and was an electrician at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in
Lakeland, Florida. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Tri
State Gas Engine and Tractor Association, Salamonia VFW and Jay County
Historical Society.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years
Wanetta, Two daughters Marilyn Walker (husband Carl) of Pennville and Debra
Jones (husband Kerry) of Berne, Two grandchildren and four great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00
PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Paul VanCise presiding.
Burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday
from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to Asbury United Methodist
Church.
