William Howard Long, age 93, of rural Portland, resident
passed away Wednesday August 8, 2018 . He was born in Jay County August 10,
1924 the son of William Ray and Verna (Poe) Long. He was married September
1, 1945 to Helen Stoner who passed away June 5, 2016. He was a 1942 Madison
Twp. High School graduate, a WW II US Army veteran and member of American
Legion Post #211. He was owner and operator of Bill's Big Bar in Portland
retiring in 1993.
Surviving are five daughtes Billie
Girton (husband Keith) of Portland, Linda Rhodehamel (husband Kevin) of
Portland, Vickie Long of Indianapolis, Elaine Murray (husband Mike) of Eaton
and Nancy Kreider of Union City, Indiana, one sister Janice Matchett
(husband Lou) of Royertown, Ten grandchildren, Eight great and one great
great
Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 PM in the
Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Hines presiding. Burial with
military honours will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery. Visitation is Monday
from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the choice of the donor.
