James A Weaver

Services for James A. Weaver were conducted at 10:30 a.m. at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland.

Weaver, 58, 105 Williamson Drive, Portland, died Friday morning in an apparent accident at Teledyne Portland Forge, according to Jay County Coroner H.I. Whetsel. An autopsy has been performed but the results have not yet been received, reported Whetsel. According to Whetsel, a machine was involved in the incident at the Portland plant, but it was not clear whether the machine was involved before or after Weaver’s death.

A member of the Portland City Council since January 1976, he was born October 21, 1924 in Jay County, the son of Roy and Lora (Stolz) Weaver.

On July 30, 1948, he was married to Rosemary Orr, and she survives.

An employee of Teledyne Portland Forge since 1964, he was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Portland, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving in addition to the wife are one son, Steven Weaver, Leo; a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Linda) Stergar, Indianapolis; three sisters, Mrs. Don (Margaret) Reef, New Corydon, Mrs. Marion (Miriam) DeBolt, Decatur, and Mrs. Lewis (Betty) King, Bryant; and one granddaughter.

Rev. Mark Strietelmeier officiated at the services with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Portland.

The Baird-Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association or the Zion Lutheran Church of Portland.
