Jay Evered Walter

Jay E. Walter, 97, Berne, died at 7:05 p.m. Monday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
He was born on November 13, 1910, in New Corydon to Charles A. and Nellie Switzer
Walter.
He married Edith A. Stolz on June 23, 1946; she survives.

He was a self-employed painting and wallpapering decorator who was a member of
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant. He was a member of the Bryant Senior Citizens,
and the Berne Senior Citizens.

During World War II, Mr. Walter served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45 in Africa and
Sicily.

Other survivors are a son, Donald J. Walter of Geneva; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Sara)
Kessing of Indianapolis; two sisters, Josephine Baker of Berne and Jesteene E. Michael of
Bryant; and three grandchildren. A brother is deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Redeemer Lutheran Church,
with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Jay County.

Visiting hours are until 8 p.m. today in Swiss Village Retirement Community at Berne.
Preferred memorials are to the church.

Funeral arrangements were by Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva.
