AbernathyServices will be held Monday for Redkey native John Walter Abernathy.
The 75-year-old Riverview, Fla., resident died Thursday in Brandon Hospital in Brandon, Fla.Born in Redkey on August 12, 1916, he was the son of James Albert Abernathy and Irene M. (Bales) Abernathy.
He was a retired grinder operator at Warner Gear in Muncie, where he worked for 40 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 401 in Redkey, the Muncie Moose Lodge and the Warner Gear Sympathy Club.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. After his retirement, he lived at River Lawn Trailer Park in Riverview, Fla., for 15 years.
Survivors include a brother, Jasper W. Abernathy, Redkey, and several nieces and nephews.Rev. Wayne Baxter will preside at services at 11 am Monday in the Redkey Chapel of Jones Mortuaries.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm at the mortuary.
