Hawkins Cemetery

The cemetery is located off Boundary Pike on County Rd. 250; on a bank at the forks of the Little Salamonia. Portland is the nearest town.
Hawkins Pioneer Cemetery is located on land once owned by War of 1812 veteran John J Hawkins & his wife Nancy Sellers Hawkins who are buried in the cemetery, according to Rebecca James.
According to the History of Jay County, John J Hawkins was the "first death and burial among the early residents in Jay County,"
making Hawkins the first cemetery in Jay County.
The last known burial in Hawkins was in 1901 or 1902.

Thanks to Lana Freeman McAfee & Jim Cox who photographed the cemetery in September 2016!
