DEATH CLAIMS GROCERY OWNER
Portland, May 2 –(1940)
Jacob Miller Spade, 76, grocery owner here for 45 years until his retirement two years ago, died of pneumonia at 6:30 pm today at the Jay County Hospital here.
A native of Jay County, he entered the grocery business here in 1893 and at one time owned three stores here and one at Berne. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Rotary Club and the First Christian Church.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Olive Thomas Spade of Portland; four daughters: Mrs. Maude Tormohlen and Mrs. C. M. Twombley of Coeur d’Alene, Ida., and Mrs. Vaughan Stanton and Mrs. R. C. Valentine of Portland and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

SPADE
Portland, May 3 –
Funeral services for J. M. Spade,
76, retired Portland grocer, will be conducted Saturday morning at 10:30
o’clock at the local Methodist church in charge of Rev. E. J. Wikersham,
pastor. Interment will be in Green Park Cemetery.
Mr. Spade died at
6:30 o’clock Thursday evening at the Jay County Hosptial.
Surviving
are six children: Mrs. Cm. M. Twornbly of Coeur d’Alene, Ida., Mrs. Maude
Tormohlen, Mrs. R. C. Valentine, Mrs. Vaughn Stanton, Keith and Frank Spade,
all of this city.
