DEATH CLAIMS GROCERY OWNER

Portland, May 2 –(1940)

Jacob Miller Spade, 76, grocery owner here for 45 years until his retirement two years ago, died of pneumonia at 6:30 pm today at the Jay County Hospital here.

A native of Jay County, he entered the grocery business here in 1893 and at one time owned three stores here and one at Berne. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Rotary Club and the First Christian Church.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Olive Thomas Spade of Portland; four daughters: Mrs. Maude Tormohlen and Mrs. C. M. Twombley of Coeur d’Alene, Ida., and Mrs. Vaughan Stanton and Mrs. R. C. Valentine of Portland and 10 grandchildren.

SPADE

Portland, May 3 –

Funeral services for J. M. Spade, 76, retired Portland grocer, will be conducted Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock at the local Methodist church in charge of Rev. E. J. Wikersham, pastor. Interment will be in Green Park Cemetery.

Mr. Spade died at 6:30 o’clock Thursday evening at the Jay County Hosptial.

Surviving are six children: Mrs. Cm. M. Twornbly of Coeur d’Alene, Ida., Mrs. Maude Tormohlen, Mrs. R. C. Valentine, Mrs. Vaughn Stanton, Keith and Frank Spade, all of this city.
