Carl S. Bowen age 90, 107 Silvers
Lane Portland passed away Monday at his residence . He was born in Portland
March 6, 1927 the son of Ray and Opal (Wood) Bowen. He was married July 17,
1948 to Ruth Ann Smiley and she died April 25, 2001. He was married on July
19, 2002 to Joan Robbins who survives. He was a farmer, owner and operator
of B&G Oil Company in Portland and a school bus driver for over forty years.
He served in the US Army and was a member of American Legion Post #211. He
was a member of West Walnut Street Church of Christ and 1945 Portland High
School graduate. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan.
Surviving are
his wife Joan, Two sons Tim Bowen (wife Vicki) of Ringgold, GA and Bruce
Bowen (wife Jane) of Portland, one daughter Melanie Metzler (husband Jim) of
Zionsville, one brother Roger Bowen (wife Luetta) of Portland, Ten
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by a son Greg.
Funeral services will be Friday
at 11:00 AM in the West Walnut Street Church of Christ with Pastor Gil
Alicia presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery. Visitation
will be Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home and
one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials can be made to the
West Walnut Street Church of Christ or Jay County Cancer Society.
