5/24/1975 - 4/10/2020
Terra Deveaux Alexander, Indianapolis, passed away April 10, 2020. She was born May 24, 1975 in Chicago, Illinois.
Terra is survived by her
husband, Bryan Alexander, son Hymne Deveaux, Indianapolis, IN;
stepdaughters, Maddie and Bridget Alexander, Carmel, IN; Mother Sandra
Clark, Dolton, IL; Brothers William (Diane) Haulcy, Calument city, IL;
Demetrius (Katnetha) Haulcy, Sedalia, MO. Also, her mother-in-law, Alice
Alexander, Portland, IN; and sister-in-law’s Gina Denton, Portland, IN and
Kristie Alexander, Johnson City, TN.
She was a graduate of Northern
Illinois University with a B.A in Political Science and completed courses in
Drama and Film and Television at the Tish School of the Arts at New York
University.
Terra was a devoted mother and wife and lived to serve
others. She was a former social justice leader at the Oasis Church, Los
Angeles, CA and a proud and active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Her
sisterhood was central in her life and she joined her sorors monthly in
Chicago for fellowship and to engage in community projects focused on
serving the underprivileged and the elderly. She never passed on an
opportunity to help those in need.
Along with her husband Bryan,
Terra enjoyed travel and she was blessed enough to see all corners of the
country along with her beloved tropical beach locations by his side. Despite
coming from very different places, Bryan and Terra were each other’s best
friend and loved to spend time together laughing and enjoying life.
She was ambitious and could never be distracted from chasing her passions.
She was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and was a working actress and
model for over ten years. She published a book and produced a movie.
Her professional passion was based on healing. She had her own massage
practice in Broad Ripple, IN (Holistic Terra) for almost ten years and was
not only a therapist but a friend to her many clients.
She was a
proud mother and was able to see her son achieve the goals that they,
together, had worked so hard to achieve. Most importantly, she was a child
of God and worked daily on her relationship with Him.
Given the
current circumstances, there will be a private service on Tuesday, April
21st at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, IN, followed by internment at
Green Park Cemetery. A public homecoming celebration will be held in
Chicago, IL at a later date. Memorials may be made in her honor to the
Indianapolis Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic.
