James W. Votaw, age 89, of Portland passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019,
at IU Health Jay.
He was born in Muncie on Aug. 19, 1929, the son of
Kenneth and Dora (Sanders) Votaw. He was married Dec. 20, 1952, to Nina
Stewart who survives. He served with the U.S. Army and was a member of
Portland American Legion Post 211 for 67 years. He retired in 1991 from
Teledyne Portland Forge after 42 years.
Surviving are his wife Nina;
two sons, Mike Votaw (wife: Barbara) of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Doug
Votaw (wife: Glenda) of Portland; one sister, Anne Spear of Oxnard,
California; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son Steve
Votaw.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, from 3 to 7 p.m. in
the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Private burial services will be held later.
Memorials can be made to the Portland American Legion or choice of the
donor.
