Former resident dies Tuesday
Mrs. Helen M. Stolz,
69, of Cincinnati, O., former Decatur resident who worked in the local
selective service office during World War II, died Tuesday evening in the
Hillenbrand hospital there following an extended illness.
Mrs. Stolz
and her husband also operated a small diner on Court street, the predecessor
of Dick’s Diner, and the present Copper Kettle.
Mrs. Stolz had served
as assistant manager of the Cutco Federal Credit Union in Cincinnati prior
to her retirement. She was a 50 year member and past worthy matron of the
Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church
in Portland.
Mrs. Stolz was born June 13, 1904 in Portland, the daughter
of George and Emma (Reed) May. She was married to Fred L. Stolz on July 23,
1927.
Her husband survives along with two nieces, Mrs. Stuart Waite,
Springfield, Mass., and Mrs. Joanna Stone, Portland.
Funeral services
will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in
Portland with Dr. Orrin Manifold officiating. Burial will be in Green Park
Cemetery.
Callers will be received at the funeral home after 4 p.m.
on Thursday.
Members of the Eastern Star will conduct memorial
services Thursday evening at the funeral home.
