Sister of county resident dies
Mrs. Vecil B.
Schlechty, 71, sister of an Adams county resident, died last Saturday
evening at the Jay county hospital after a two month illness. Mrs. Schlechty
formerly lived at route 3, Portland.
Surviving her are her husband,
Leo; four sisters, Mrs. John Wheat of route 5, Mrs. Lloyd Cook of Pennville,
Mrs. Glen Boxell of route 2, Portland, and Mrs. Paul Quillen of route 4,
Hartford City; a brother, Cleo Bookout of route 3, Portland; a niece, Mrs.
Lew (Sally) Lundstead of Palatine, Ill.; a nephew, Clint Bookout of
Hillsburn, Ore.; two half-brothers, Wendell and James Bookout of Hartford
City, two half-sisters, Mrs. Thomas Duke of Hartford City and Mrs. Robert
Brown of Montpelier; and several other nieces and nephews.
Mrs.
Schlechty was born on October 31, 1902 in Jay county to Clinton and Gertrude
Brunson Bookout and she graduated from the Lutheran school of Nursing in
Fort Wayne in 1928. She married Leo Schlechty on June 28, 1852.
She
was a member of the Jay County Nurses Association and the First Presbyterian
church.
Services were held at Portland today.
