Former city power plant head dies
Lester C.
Pettibone, 78, of 103 Harvester Lane, former superintendent of the old
Decatur light and power plant, died at 1:40 a.m. today at the Adams county
memorial hospital. He was hospitalized Nov. 13 and in failing health for two
years.
Mr. Pettibone was chief engineer of the Portland Light & Power
plant from 1926 until 1943. He came to Decatur as superintendent of the
light plant in 1943 and was superintendent there until his retirement.
Born in Randolph county on April 6, 1896, he was a son of Nathan and
Myrtle Clerk-Pettibone and was married in June of 1926 to Lorena Myers, who
survives.
Other survivors include one son, Eugene of route 2,
Decatur; one sister, Mrs. Eva Sheppard of Louisville, Ky.; seven
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Three brothers preceded him in
death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the
Zwick funeral home, with Clyde Steele officiating. Burial will be in the
Green Park cemetery, Portland. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2
p.m. Friday.
