Florena Miller, 87, Riverside, California, died Wednesday, December 6, 1995, in Riverside. She was a former Portland and Geneva resident. She was born November 18, 1908, in Jay County to Joseph W. and Sarah Anne (Lyons) Glines. She married Gerald L. Miller January 26, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Asbury United Methodist
Church where she belonged to the Wesleyan Circle, the United Methodist
Women, the Homemakers Class and was a Sunday School teacher.
Mrs. Miller
graduated from Governor I. P. Gray High School in 1927. She then graduated
in 1931 from Ball State Teachers College with her teacher’s degree and again
in 1958 with her master’s degree in education. She was an elementary school
teacher in Jay County for 40 years.
She was a member of the Redkey Bridge Club, a charter member of the Zeta Alpha Chapter of Delta Theta Tau in Redkey; a member of the Portland Bridge Club, the National Retired Teachers Association, an honor member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Jay County Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Jay County Humane Society, a member of the Richard’s Breakfast Club, the Widow to Widow Club of Portland and the Quest Club.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Marjorie) Wynn, Riverside, California; a son, George Miller, Geneva; a brother, Thomas Arnett, San Diego, California and a grandson, Douglas Miller, Geneva, Indiana.
Services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 12 in the
Portland Chapel of Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home. Minister Marjorie Wynn
and Pastor Gerald Hewson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Green
Park Cemetery, Portland.
