Mark Robert Heath age 65, of Portland, Badge 714 passed away Tuesday
evening September 17, 2019 in Muncie at I U Ball Memorial Hospital. He was
born July 10, 1954, the son of Robert and Eileen (Hunsburger) Heath. He was
married May 16, 1998 to Stephanie Whiles who survives. He retired in 2010
from the Portland Police Department after 30 years. He had served as
Assistant Police Chief, member of the Drug Task Force and Firearms
Instructor. He was a 1973 Portland High School graduate and 1977 Vincennes
University graduate. He was a member of F.O.P., Asbury United Methodist
Church and Portland Elks Lodge. He was an owner and breeder of several
harness race horses and was active in shooting sports, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife Stephanie, one son Spencer Baker of Pittsburgh,
PA., two daughters Shalee Myron (husband John) of Pennville and Abigale
Heath of Portland, two brothers David Heath (wife Tracy) of Portland and
Brad Heath (wife Tari) of Lebanon, Ohio, Two grandchildren Collin and Alyse
Myron, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday
September 22, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the Asbury United Methodist Church with
Pastor Allison Yankey presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park
Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 - 4:00 PM and Sunday from
12:00 – 1:00 PM at the church. Memorials can be made to the Jay County
Cancer Society. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
