Two Portland men die in fire
Two Portland men,
John Frank Barr, 71, and Francis J. Fowler, 51, were pronounced dead at the
scene in a fire which engulfed the Barr home I Portland early Thursday
morning.
R.E. Schenck, Jay county coroner, listed the cause of death of
both men as smoke inhalation and super-heated air.
Barr, a World War
I veteran was a retired employee of Sheller-Globe Corp. at Portland, and was
a member of Portland American Legion post, Disabled American Veterans and
the Eagles lodge.
Surviving are a sister, Miss Carrie Barr of Richmond;
four nieces and one nephew.

Fowler had been employed at
Nussbaum Novelty Co. in Berne. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mytele Fowler
of Portland; one brother and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held
Saturday afternoon at the Baird-Freeman funeral home in Portland, with the
Fowler rites at 1 p.m. and the Barr rites at 3 p.m.
