Bryant man killed in mishap north of city on highway 27
Adams county’s fifth highway fatality of the year, and the fourth within
a half mile stretch of US 27, occurred at 5:45 p.m. Friday when a 62-year
old Bryant man, Leo H. Jackson, was killed almost instantly when his late
model Pinto struck the rear dual wheels of a semi-trailer truck driven by
Jimmie D. Williams, 31 Findlay, Ohio.
The accident happened about two
miles north of Decatur and was the first death since Sina Luginbill was
killed in a two-car crash, also about two miles north on 27 on October 20.
Prior to that, about 2 ½ miles north of the city, Tom Isch and Keith Snyder
were killed last January 24. (The other county fatality was that of
motorcyclist Michael Haywood in May near Beery’s trailer court south of
Decatur.)
Jackson died at the scene from a fractured neck, a crushed
chest, a fractured right leg, and internal injuries…………
Survivors of
the crash victim include his wife, Helen; and a son, James Jackson of
Portland.
The body was removed to the Baird-Freeman funeral home at
Portland. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
