William P. Butcher Died Suddenly From Stroke of Apoplexy

William Perry Butcher, 68, died suddenly at his home in Bryant Thursday night about 9:30 from apoplexy, following his return home from the Lutheran Church at Bryant. He was discussing the services to members of the family when he was suddenly stricken and died within a short time afterwards.

The deceased was born in Jay County, October 3, 1854, the son of Samuel and Amanda Butcher. He had been a resident of Bearcreek Township all of his life. He was married forty years ago to Emma Gierhart, who survives together with the following children: Harry and Ray Butcher, of Jay County; Homer, of Bryant; Mrs. Anthony Bryant, of Bryant; Orie and Bessie Butcher of Fort Wayne. Three children preceded him in death.

The following brothers and sisters also survive: George and Jasper Butcher, of Jay County; Elbridge Butcher, of Adams County; Mrs. William Elberson of Portland; Mrs. Samantha Fifer, of Jay County; Mrs. Manda Anderson, of Edgerton, Ohio; and Miss Delana Butcher, of Jay County. One brother and one sister are dead. [buried Gravel Hill Cemetery; Jackson Township, Jay County, Indiana]
