Roy Dean DeBoy age 75, of Marion passed away Tuesday December 10, 2019 at
Marion General Hospital. Roy was born in Portland, Indiana on August 19,
1944 the son of Gerald and Madonna (Bailey) DeBoy. He was married June 4,
1966 to Sue Laux who survives. He was a 1962 Portland High School graduate.
He served with the US Navy from 1962-1965. He retired from a local factory
in Marion after 30 years of service.
Roy was affectionately know as
Granddad and loved spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan
and loved NASCAR, Dale Jarrett was his favorite. He attended the Brickyard
several times and always joked that Dale would wave to him when he passed.
He was a Notre Dame fan, both basketball and football. He was a baseball
card collector, a hobby he enjoyed and shared with his son. He was a
honorary bingo caller at the Laux family Christmas. He was a good guy that
brought many smiles and laughs to all around him.
He fought a long
battle against ALS. In this battle he demonstrated his strong character and
his love for his family. He was so strong and brave and made his family so
proud. At the end of his battle we were gifted a special time to share
memories that we would cherish. He would do anything for his family. His
main concern was to make sure his family was cared for, especially his wife,
Sue.
He is survived by his wife Sue, one daughter Debra Goodman
(husband Bart) of Marion and one son Scott DeBoy (wife Jennifer) of Marion.
Four grandchildren Kimberly Cox, Matt DeBoy, Alyssa Goodman and Garrett
Goodman. Two great grandchildren Jaden DeBoy and Brooklynn Cox. Brothers in
Law Steve Laux (wife Laura) and Larry Laux (wife Lori) and Larry Gibson all
of Portland, Sister in Law Joan Hudson of Ossian, several nieces, nephews,
great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and
brothers Rex and Gerald and sister Janet Gibson.
Funeral services
will be Saturday December 14, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral
Home Portland, Indiana with Cathy Fugiett presiding. Burial will follow in
the Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. In
lieu of flowers memorials can be made to ALS Foundation or Holy Family
Church in Gas City.
