DELLA E. PARSON DIES ON TUESDAY
Former Portland
Teacher Succumbs At New Madison, Ohio
Mrs. Della E. Parson, 62, died
Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Raymond
Deaton, one mile east of New Madison, Ohio. Death resulted from
complications following a stroke on July 3.
The deceased was employed
as a schoolteacher for 18 years, and taught in the General Shanks School in
Portland for seven years. While living in Portland, she was known as Della
Bickel.
The deceased was a daughter of Vynul and Mary Catherine
(Dickes) Arnett, and was born November 24, 1877.In February 1898, she was
married to Ellsworth Bickel, who died June 4, 1899. On June 1, 1914, she was
married to Jesse Parson, who survives. She is also survived by the following
children: Bonita, wife of Byron Shellabarger, of near Greenville, Ohio;
Francis O. Parson, of near Monroeville; Leonard E. Parson, at home; and
Kathleen, wife of Raymond Deaton, at whose home she died.Also surviving are
one stepson, Harold W. Parson, of Richmond, five grandchildren, one
step-grandchild, and one sister Mrs. May (Eley) Gaunt, of Fort Wayne. She
was preceded in death by two half-brothers and four grandchildren.
The body was brought to the Williamson funeral home for preparation and
returned to the daughter's residence Wednesday forenoon.Funeral services
will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. EST from the German Baptist church, east
of Palestine, Ohio. Elder Arthur R.King will officiate.Interment will be
made in the Boundary cemetery, southeast of Portland. The casket will be
opened at the cemetery.
