Ephraim Allen, born August 6, 1818 in Muskingum County, Ohio; died August
17, 1895; aged 77 years and 11 days.
He married Emily Ramey in 1840.
There were born to this marriage three children, two of whom died in
infancy, one living, Mrs. Mary Jane Horr, of Paola, Kan. His first wife died
in 1853. He married Sarah Ann Taylor in 1844, who still survives him. There
were born of the second marriage thirteen children, five girls and eight
boys; two boys dying in childhood and two at the age of 14 years. Four sons
are still living.
Ephraim Allen moved to this state thirty-two years
ago and has been a resident of Jay County thirty-one years.
The
funeral services were held at the farm residence, near Boundary and were
conducted by his eldest, Judge D. A. Allen, of Newark, Ohio and his youngest
daughter, Mrs. Letta Sutton, of Upland, Grant County, Indiana.
The
children were all present except his eldest daughter, Mrs. Sarah Jane Horr,
of Paola, Kan., and two sons, George and William, the former residing in
Wis., and the later in Omaha, Neb.
