David D. Thomas, age 80, a former resident of Portland, passed away on
Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Majestic Care in Fort Wayne.
David
was born on December 12, 1939, in Wyoming County, West Virginia, the son of
George and Winnie A. (Hash) Thomas. David was a veteran of the US Army
serving in Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart for injuries during
combat. He worked for Jay Garment in Portland for 21 years as a Janitor and
Watchman. David enjoyed square dancing with Roberta, traveling often for
square dancing events. David was a member of the VFW in Fort Recovery,
American Legion Post #211 of Portland and the Moose Lodge of Portland.
David married Roberta Thomas on August 28, 1971 and she passed away on
July 26, 2012.

1 son: Dustin E. Thomas – Muncie, Indiana

8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta, and
children Kellie Collins, David E. Thomas, and Gordon Holcomb.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and
Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. on
Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor Phill Jellison will officiate the
service and burial will follow at a later date in Antioch Cemetery. The
Portland American Legion Post #211 will conduct military rites at the
funeral home on Tuesday.
