Seymour Daily Tribune December 31, 2006 Allie Elizabeth Umphress Oct. 12, 1922 - Dec. 30, 2006 Allie Elizabeth "Betty" Umphress, 84, Seymour, died at 6:45 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. She was a member of First Marion Baptist Church, Seymour and was employed at Union Hardware for 17 years. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #134 in Seymour for 49 years. Born Oct. 12, 1922, in Greensburg, she was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth (Boyd) Martin, both of whom preceded her in death. On Aug. 8, 1942, in Kentucky, she married Russell O. Umphress, who preceded her in death. Survivors include five daughters, Patricia (David) Cain, Oweeta (Robert) Engelking, Kay (Marvin "Dink") Scifres, Fay (Richard) Gardner, and Mary Alice (Dean) Craft; 19 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She also is preceded in death by one daughter, Nora "Betty" (David) Monroe; two sisters, Mable Cardinal and Ada Schwind and three brothers, Culver, Roland and Roy Martin. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. The Rev. David Schill will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday at the funeral home. An Eastern Star service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Uniontown Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Uniontown Cemetery Association.
