Seymour Tribune - October 2008 James A. Martin 1938 - 2008 James A. Martin, 70, Columbus, passed away at 11:03 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at his daughter Jamie's home where he resided and was cared for the past five years. Mr. Martin was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 32 years of service. James loved to work in his garden and share it with others. He was loved by many and Papaw to many. Born Feb. 19, 1938, in Columbus, he was the son of Gurnsey and Belva Cook Martin, both of whom preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Brian A. (Patty) Martin, Columbus; daughters, Jamie S. Rose, Leah D. Coleman and Neah D. Martin, all of Columbus; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl Martin, Phoenix, Ariz., and Don Martin, Indianapolis; and sisters, Joyce Turney, Houston, Texas, Nancy Routier, Edinburgh, Mary Anderson, Hope, Loretta Martin, Sellersburg, and Wilma Hardin, Brown County. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles Martin and Dale Martin, and sisters, Janice Martin and Lois Mathis. The Rev. Robert Reeves will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus. Private inurnment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
