Seymour Daily Tribune Gary Wayne Ewing September 11, 2006 Gary Wayne Ewing, 70, died Saturday, September 9, at his residence. Mr. Ewing served as master counselor of the Seymour chapter of the Order of DeMolay in 1953, and was a 50-plus year member of First Baptist Church of Seymour, where he held positions as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, chairman of the board of trustees and member of the Fidelis men's Sunday school class. He retired in 1987, after 31 years, from Cummins Engine Co., Columbus, where he started on the production floor, moved through the tech program, the engine test group and the L-10 group. He then went on to the Seymour Turbo plant and moved into warranty administration for the United Kingdom and Australia. He completed his years at Cummins with supplier QC/QA. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and farming. Born Nov. 6, 1935, in rural Jackson County (Zollman farm). He lived in Seymour all the rest of his life. He was the son of Charles Everet Ewing and Thelma May (True) Ewing. He married Carol Jean Hedges Ewing on Oct. 2, 1955, at First United Methodist Church in Seymour. Survivors include his wife, Carol Jean Ewing; a daughter, Debra (Richard) Ann Wilde; sons, Douglas Alan (Doris Weissert) Ewing and Dwayne Andrew Ewing, all of Seymour; grandchildren; Cody Mark Wilde (fiancé Julia Schumacher), Seymour, Casey (Ashley) Thomas Wilde of Greenwood, Alisha Weissert (Nic Wilson), Kaitlin Louise Weissert, Sarah Michelle Ewing and Victoria Rose Ewing, all of Seymour; great grandchildren; Vincent O'Ryan Wilson and Triniti Lynn Wilde, both of Seymour; a sister: Janet Elaine (Ron) Jarvis, Seymour, and their children, Susan (Mark) Maureen Deaton, Freetown and Matthew Scott (Michelle) Jarvis, Avon; great nieces and nephews: Harlan M. and Alison M. Deaton and Madison and Aaron Jarvis and Eleanor Jean Conley; sister-in-law, Wanda Jean (Rainey) Ewing, Seymour, and daughter Tracy Anne Conley (Craig) of Fishers. Gary has several surviving cousins in the Salem area including; the Oscar Ewing family, the Stanley Altemeyer family, Helen Morgan and family, Eleanor Morgan and family, Ronald Ewing and family, Bonnie Journell and family; Donald Altemeyer of Indianapolis; surviving cousins in the Seymour area include Ruth (Chester) Tracy and Shirley (Ron) Stahl. He was preceded in death by an older brother, David Bradley Ewing, and a cousin, Stanley Altemeyer. The Rev. Bruce Cochran and Rev. Larry Tingle will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church Youth Mission Trip or Gideons International.
